    I'm not good at math. But I think 33000 is larger then 26001.

    You sure you didn't register it by what its rated to TOW. I ask, becasue the F-450's I been looking at aren't rated over 16k lbs. Even the F-550's I have seen aren't rated over 19k lbs capacity.
    I haven't checked Tow capacity, since we don't tow very often and not over 7k lbs.

    Only what the Gross Weight Rating of the vehicle is, determines how the truck is registered.
    Or whether or not the driver needs a CDL. The Ford F-450 maxes out 16k lbs. GVWR, F800 can gross above 26k, but I find it hard to believe that a F-450 grosses out above 16k GVWR.

    Just to add another tidbit, if a truck is under 26,000 lbs but has air brakes, you still need to have a Class B CDL with airbrakes to drive it.

    NO. it is the RATED WEIGHT, and not how much load is on it. whatever the manufacturer has rated the truck at determines the type of license you need. for 27 grand, you need a class "b" c.d.l.. no exceptions.

    Hey Open Road,
    I just looked it up a couple of weeks ago because somebody told me I needed a class B to drive my truck which is under 26K & has airbrakes & I found out I don't UMLESS I haul over 15 people or hazmat.
