It cuts out the cb function, while the phone is active, in a conversation.

I love to hate my cb. Gets on my nerves most of the time. I think I can not live with out it.

I have been out solo for the first time for the last 6 weeks. I don't feel like I NEED one, most places will call u via cell phone if you don't have a CB but I do think a CB would come in handy. Put it on your list to buy after you catch up with a few paychecks, but you don't really need it to get started.

Don't count on that. Most places you've been to will call. Wait until you get to the ones that won't. This coming from someone who ran his first few months without one. I'm telling you it sucks to sit in that lounge for several hours. Some places require you to sit in their holding cells (yeah, thats what many are because calling them a lounge is like calling a Geo Metro a sports car) anyways. But if I have the option, I'm hitting the bunk.

Common sense sure is in short supply if you think route planning at the beginning of the day can predict delays enroute .

A cb is a good tool, especially when you're new. One thing that wasn't mentioned is if you have lights go out on your trailer or a flat tire or something other drivers will let you know. Way better to hear it from them and get it taken care of than have DOT pull you over.

I ran with a Uniden Pro510xl for years, it was like $35 new. that's all you need and a $10 francis antennae will work just fine. You might want to consider getting a handheld cb as well. I had one when I was training and would use it to guide newbs when they were backing, very helpful.
