Point taken! I agree. I also should have been a little more informative on that one. I won't trust just any voice over the radio either. I saw a CR England truck back straight into another at the Pilot xit 213 on I81 one time at night because he was just listening to a voice on the radio saying "You got it just a little bit more. Ok good come on back!" Turns out it was somebody talking to a flatbedder on another row and England just assumed it was for him without ever saying anything. Thats why I always verify if somebody is trying to guide me via radio. Unless they say USA Truck and I can reply to them and get a pos ID on where they are located, then I assume its just chatter and ignore it while focusing on what I'm doing. I have found though that many times if the driver next to you is awake then he will say something just out of wanting you NOT to dock with his hood lol! I know that I sure do if somebody is coming close to me. I make sure though to identify the truck when I call them first instead of just saying "You're getting close, you need to stop!" Watch people try to park at that Petro in North Little Rock after dark. One person says "Stop" on the radio and like 3-4 trucks just come to a halt.

Most companies will make you buy your own, Swift required me to get my own but the antenna and Power was in place. I got a cheapo cobra which I kept off most of the time anyway (it's a distraction especially for new drivers)

I guess the several years of college and 7 years in the Army helped to make me a great multi-tasker. Just gifted, I guess. :) I also forgot to mention that I also keep all my accounting up to date while out on the truck which includes running multi layered relational spreadsheets. I like to know how my operation is doing. A snapshot in time. I hate surprises.

Dang someone beat me to the Obama bashers comment...

But I must add that they rarely have any facts behind their comments. Not to politicize...

Since my last post in this tread I got a Cobra 36ST, handheld CB in the pic above. $15 on ebay, shipping included.

I am very pleased. I can easy take it with me if I change trucks. It has plenty of range to cover cutomer's parking lots to communicate with the guard shack, etc. Covers truck stops, in fact I can pick up traffic from truck stops across the interstate. Also enough range to allow for someone to alert me if they see I have a bad light or tire while driving down the road.

Not so much range that I have to pick up the nonsense that is most CB traffic on the open road. The right tool for the job for me. Check ebay, I have seen others in the price range of $15-$20. Often does not come with a charger but any simple charger will do. I use the same charger that came with my rechargable flash light.

Sounds like the right option and PRICE! What a deal! Does it have a port for an external antenna? If so you could get a magnetic mount antenna and get out a bit farther, if you wanted.

I saved (and in some cases before I had one, could have saved) a few hours of waiting in expressway backups, due to accidents and storm damage like trees falling onto the roadway, because I had the CB on.

also if you think that some app is going to work better than a cb your wrong...so many day to day construtions that you wont find listed on any sites or the quick wrech 30 miles up ahead of you...that's where the cb is needed...to avoid that...plus its nice to talk to someone for a while on those long dark nights...
