I missed this round of weekend classes for my CDL. September is the next set and I am signed up!
My question is, do I really need a house or apartment. My lease is up in a few months and can do month to month till school is underway. I plan on dumping most of my "extra items" I own in the coming months. The items I can't part with would go into storage. Is it feasable to just be on the road, when you get a day off or two, check into a hotel. Vacations I would actually go someplace I haven't been.
Looking forward to joining the lifestyle soon!

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments. I have enjoyed reading all the different viewpoints over the past few weeks.

P.S. I hope to be able to drive with my buddy, Maximus. I have read a few of the companys allow a pet to travel along.

Do you plan on staying in that truck 24/7/365? If you have no place to go during your downtime, you might want to reconsider leaving yourself no place to go.

Did it for a couple of months, put my stuff into storage and got a motel for the days I was in for home time, a lot cheaper then paying rent for some place I would only be at for 3-4 days. Still doing almost the same thing 'cept stay with my daughter and her mom when I'm on home time, same cost as storage/hotel but better time with mini-me!

I have my stuff in my parents garage (free storage).
When I had time off I would crash at my buddy's place, but sleeping on a couch sucks.
When I have a few days off I just get a motel. There is a company discount at a motel in Sioux Falls, so I can get 3 days for less then $100. Plus Sioux Falls is a decent sized town, there is plenty of stuff to find to do.

Nope. it does help to have a permanent mailing address, though. This can be easily accomplished via a store like Mailboxes etc.

If you don't have a "tax home", you can't take the per diem deduction on your 2106. So yes, you COULD get an address at mailbox's etc. and live 356/24/7 in the truck....but you would lose out on what is probably going to be your biggest deduction as a company driver. Best bet would be to "officially" move back in with mom & dad. Use their address for your driver's license and to receive mail. That way, your time on the road is deductible because you have a fixed residence.

I'm not a "driver" yet,,,but I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night! LOL

Pedigreed, above, seems to have good advice. Use your parent's info,,,,until you find a woman. I'm old and phat and bald,,,but it's my woman who brings me home. Until you have that beautiful pair of eyes waiting for you,,,home is wherever you lay your head.

    right?
