Thank you so much guys! i took the truck home from texas to wyoming and avoided all "unnecessary" use of my jakes, kinda feel silly now but i am glad i could use you guys as a good resource to uncover the truth. i am gonna go back to jaking it up every chance i get.

Never trust a car salesman. Never trust a service manager. Never trust a service writer. Most of them don't know $#!+ from apple butter, and......they all work on commission. They will all try to sell you stuff you don't need, and more often than not, never fix the original problem you showed up with. I have always wrenched on my own cars, pick up trucks, motorcycles etc. On the rare occasion I took one of the above to a shop to have it worked on, they almost inevitably did a halfa-ssed job or effed something up

I had always did my own wrenching on my cars and still do to some extent. I enjoy working on them, but not so much in a "have to" situation. Have many memories of late nights using a drop light or flashlight in the wee hours trying to get the GD car fixed so I could get to work at 6am. So now at age 71 my days of laying on the cold ground under a car are not very frequent. But all my time working on these cars has given me the ability to see through some of these service managers trying to feed me a load of sh , I mean, stuff.

As was mentioned almost all of the newer model automatic trucks automatically engage the jake in between shifts to shift quicker, whether you actually have the jakes on or not. So annoying as it may be listening to the straight pipe jakes in between every shift, not sure it’s actually hurting anything.Roberts450, Bean Jr., blairandgretchen and 1 other person Thank this.
