Not sure what you mean by "average" but you'd better hope to make a darn sight more than $35k a yr my friend. As a company driver hauling gas I made $60k yr. that should be the minimum because what's the point if you can't surpass $60K. It's gonna depend on your revenue stream. This is where guys fall flat on their faces. If you can't drum up decent numbers of revenue, then you're sunk. At least your truck payment is a bit more real if you're telling the truth, but it depends on what you're buying. Is it new, is it used??
Do not do a lease purchase.....ever!!!

OOIDA reported the 35k average O/O income.
2013 Cascadia, has some ginger bread. If I didn't have a truck payment then 60k would be insight.
It just gets old, these lease bashing threads, as if every company runs their lease program like CRST. And some how its ok for banks to make money, but not trucking co. I know I paid more than if I would have a bank loan, but banks wouldn't touch me because of failed business in 09, so I pay more for the risk, ok, makes sense to me. -
To add insult to injury, swift charges .08 cpm for any mileage over 12,000 in a 31 day window.....a big UP YOURS!

Yes I have a new truck, yes I go where the customer tells me. But I still pay myself $41,800/yr. AFTER my quarterly tax and still put $350-$550/week into my savings on top of the maintenance account.
Not all lease purchase programs are bad and not all carriers are out to screw people.
75% of the failures out here are a direct result of people who treat their little company the same way they treated the company truck. When you spend all your time blaming others (Dispatch, maintenance, customers) for your poor choices. Why should anyone help you succeed?daf105paccar and mattbnr Thank this. -
Leaving real bad deals aside(the firms out to screw their drivers and L/O),i think those that fail at L/O will also fail at being O/O.
Cannot save money, see only the bling,etc..............
Some might actually benefit from 1y walkaway leases as it will show them how tough it is to make it being independent in the trucking world.
And don't forget that the people offering the loads to O/O are not allways honest either. -
If that's your dream, hummmmm................................................ok

Some of you guys are working so hard to maintain that lease it aint even funny. Only company lease I would entertain is Schneider. Even with that being said, working your rear end off and staying out weeks at a time to pay an overpriced truck payment is foolish.
dog-c Thanks this. -
I run about 2,700 miles a week. Take off when I choose and still make money. Yeah you got me being foolish. ..
