Ya Arizona is my new California when it comes to being inspected. I pull a lot of hazmat through Arizona and I have a giant target on me with those placards. California the last 6 months has been total cool but Arizona I have had three level 2's in the last 6 months. I do not like how they do them on the side of the road instead at a safer location like the weight station. Flagstaff and Casa Grande are areas where I know to stop and do I solid mid-trip before entering those areas.
Do not go texas!!!

That license plate frame thing is big in Wisconsin now. I have a friend that got stopped for that and it was from the dealer, had the dealer name on it, they made her take it off.

At least our judges in West Texas have more common sense.

Would anyone like a side bet that this has something to do with coming proliferation of plate readers, and that they have trouble with the frames?

my Mack, the one in my avatar, was 20 days old when it got it's first level 1. Cop couldn't find anything to cite me, so he made one up. I have 3 air tanks on the drivers side, the front air tank has an airline that come out from under the step, the goes at an angle between the tank, steps and mudflap, it's for the air assist clutch. They claimed it was a POTENTIAL chaffing issue, even though it doesn't come within 2 inches of touching anything and used that as an excuse to not give me a sticker. Took the truck to Mack, they put some fancy plastic cable cover on it, that was 5 yrs ago, it's still there. They then pointed to an oilfield truck with the exact same air line, on a truck that was driven off-road everyday, and the hose wasn't damaged. Sometimes these guys look for the slightest thing.
We don't do much in Tx. anymore, except the odd load to JBS in Cactus for hides. I have more of a problem with Ok. cops than I do with Tx.. Have had a couple of "meaningful conversations" with an Ok. Trooper outside Boise City. Of course, I wouldn't mind having a "meaningful conversation" with his smokin' hot redhead fiancé that I saw him having breakfast with at Pilot one morning. I've seen him meeting her there twice, once she was in yoga pants and halter top
, the other time in a tight short summer dress and cowboy boots.

i got inspected just south of Dumas on 287 end of Feb or March this year. I had come from Colorado and it had snowed pretty bad. I brushed the snow off my tail lights before I left Trinidad and he couldn't find anything else so he wrote me up for "inoperable or obscured license plate light". I had failed to brush the snow off that one. Mind you, it was daytime and the light was working but tough poo driver. No fine but I got the CSA equipment violation for that one. Some of these guys are going to write you for something no matter what.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

This is what happens when a bunch of "Candy Ankles" that could'nt put a cob handle on a file get a job inspecting a piece of equipment they themselves could'nt get through 3 gears!!! Truly a shame that common horse sense has slowly been bred out of the younger generation. Now where did I set my dang coffee? or was I drinking beer....Hammer166 and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
Been at this 36 years now. I don't recall the DOT cops getting stupid, ignorant and without any common sense until CSA came along. The DOT would give a verbal warning, tell you to get it fixed as soon as you can, for some minor violation and send you on your way.
On a recent visit to Arizona, I was pulled over for an inspection. The DOT officer could not find anything wrong except my tractor had a light fixture for a license plate on the rear of the tractor. Since Motor Vehicles doesn't issue a plate for the back of a tractor, I never had a bulb in it. He had to call his supervisor to see if that was even a legit write up. Well after sitting there for 40 minutes his supervisor called back and said if the fixture is there, the light must be working. So, I was written up for having a light out. Yep 21 points. He also said if the fixture is removed then that would be legal. Common sense is gone and I don't see it returning any time soon.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
That's been the regulation forever.. this is why adding chicken lights is a bad idea.. KISS principle.. the first thing we did when new tractors hit the yard was to remove the tag light fixtures and tie the wire back into the harness. it has to be GONETexTrucker and NavigatorWife Thank this.

Back in 2001, 2 trucks headed to Carbondale, Illinois. I was in the 97 379 pulling our Talbert beam trailer with a truck mounted drilling rig on my back, the owner of the company behind me in a 76 W900 cayying a IR 1300 cfm compressor. Pull into the scales at Shelbyville, KY and no problems on my part, straight through. Pulled off to the shoulder in wide spot because Roger never came on. Long story short, the ever so knowledgable DOT Officer a younger blonde woman...."no offense to woman".... had shut Roger down since his (DRAGLINK) "Hydraulic control valve" had movement in it. (Well yea, how else does it direct the hyd flow to either side of the slave cylinder on the tie-rod?) I could not make her understand how the NOT power-steering...but..."HYDRAULIC ASSIST" system worked. At her order I had to "bottom out" the adjustment to make her happy.... Those who have driven / worked on those type systems know what happened. I was fortuanate enough to catch her on the otherside long enough to screw it back out and shut the hood just to get it off the scales and re-adjust to proper settings down the road. Thanks for wanting to have a job and be a taxpayer...BUT... You don't need to be working at Advance Auto when you can't even check your own oil.NavigatorWife Thanks this.
