I agree about the Petro. Especially if you are coming from the south so it's not out of the way. The Pilot in Minooka is a busted fender and knocked off mirror waiting to happen, but sometimes you just do what you gotta do. The I-55 Truckstop is a pay place as well but they have a lot of room up there. The bad thing about the I-55 Truckstop is that somebody sold cigarettes to a minor and they lost their license. Now you have to go across the highway to get smokes. -
*snort!* Yeah...but they'll tell you they don't sell tobacco because it's "not Christian" while charging $12 to park unless you spend $75 each day you're there...all the while knowing they are the only show in town.
Dna Mach Thanks this. -
They have not sold cig. there for the last 10 years that I know of..

I was dead tired one night coming from Troy, AL and made an unplanned stop to take a two hour nap at the Shell truck stop on US-231 just outside of Montgomery. I don't think I was even asleep ten minutes when some guy came out banging on my door, asking for $8 to park. Um... $8 for two hours? Go **** yourself.
I noticed a few days later that the place was gated off and closed up. I guess they shot themselves in the foot one too many times. -

Passingthru69, I have no idea how long it's been. All I know is their license loss was because of illegal cigarette sales. And Injun and Sequoia, dead on. Captive unless you're feeling brave. Chicago ain't Texas by any means.
Injun Thanks this. -

I know that this place is AMAZING for food. It's on 53 on the other side of the highway on the same side of the street as the truck stop. They have huge portions for smaller prices (For Chicago!) I eat there on a regular basis as I deliver newspapers in Bolingbrook, So I'm always on the look out for places where Semi's can get away with parking without any problems. Family Square the bobcat would be OK, sometimes an occassional truck can park there, but they do have no truck parking signs that were put up by the jerks at i-55 truck stop so they can charge for it. Also the industrial area along Remmington is full of warehouses you could potentially crash at during the overnight.
