And "line 5."
-
Depending on your company's policy on use of line 5.
Last month had to p/up load early in the morning a few miles far from that disgusting Pilot at Minooka, xt 122. I wanted to take my 10 hr break right there. So, I parked at a warehouse parking lot nearby in New Lenox only 15 mins far from my shipper. -
With my new company, the use of line 5 sucks. If you need to use it, you only have 1.5 miles.. I was on a reset a couple of weeks ago, and wanted to move from one tk stop to the other acrsoos the freeway, for a change of menus. It turned out to be 1.7 miles buy the odometor. Yikes. So much for a reset.

Lousy company. Maybe you ought to consider a change...
-
Just curiosity, what is your company?
-
As time goes on, I look for them to mandate a limit to the line 5 driving to be even less than your company.
It will come to light the day an accident happens while under this questionable driving. -
How is using your rig - unladened (which means sans bill of lading) while on a reset (legitimately off-duty) for personal conveyance "questionable?"Injun Thanks this.

And it's not going to take too long for that to happen...
-
You are driving it.
Plain and simple.
Have an accident and see what happens.
Ask Dieselbear.
To drive from Minooka to another truckstop in Morris is not personal conveyance.
You will find the hard way sometime.
I know a driver fined for doing that very thing with an empty trailer.
He was told that it is not personal conveyance when hooked to the truck and moving to another location.
He fought it and lost.
From FMCSA 49 395.8
49 CFR §395.8
Question 26:
If a driver is permitted to use a CMV for personal reasons, how must the driving time be recorded?
Guidance:
When a driver is relieved from work and all responsibility for performing work, time spent traveling from a driver's home to his/her terminal (normal work reporting location), or from a driver's terminal to his/her home, may be considered off-duty time. Similarly, time spent traveling short distances from a driver's en route lodgings (such as en route terminals or motels) to restaurants in the vicinity of such lodgings may be considered off-duty time. The type of conveyance used from the terminal to the driver's home, from the driver's home to the terminal, or to restaurants in the vicinity of en route lodgings would not alter the situation unless the vehicle is laden. A driver may not operate a laden CMV as a personal conveyance. The driver who uses a motor carrier's CMV for transportation home, and is subsequently called by the employing carrier and is then dispatched from home, would be on-duty from the time the driver leaves home.
A driver placed out of service for exceeding the requirements of the hours of service regulations may not drive a CMV to any location to obtain rest.Last edited: Sep 4, 2011
