The question is who is going to pay the fine? The driver or the company?

Depends on the situation for ag loads. I’ve had overweight tickets paid by the cattle buyer before, and I’ve paid a few. With a hopper and pneumatic I paid them because it was my choice and I wasn’t asked to load up. As a company driver with a flatbed I paid some and the company paid some. Now as a company driver hauling fuel I’d just pay it since my greed would be the reason for the ticket.

Ive done end dumps for years, we have 88K permits for Florida and Alabama, I’ll go to that but I’m not going over that, I don’t vibe with the “it’s all part of the game” approach, is your boss or company going to join the fun and games when god forbid a fatality accident occurs while you’re just “being part of the game”? Not a risk I’m willing to take, call me a wuss, take my cowboy cred away from me, but I stand firm in that belief and I’m not wet behind the ears when it comes to ag work.

If the company is willing to pay, its one thing. If they're expecting the driver to pay, its an entirely different horse. If they tell the driver "run illegal or be fired", we'll my friend, that's a platypus - something that shouldn't exist.

It’s been a long time ago maybe 10 years now I dropped south outta Hamilton Alabama hit 278 come back up to 20 at Fulton just past the coop. The man was sitting right before the big road. I had a load of corn on that Tyson had rejected. He said whatcha weigh boy now I knew he was gonna find out so I told 100 and change. He took me straight to the East bound coop and sure enough we did. Payment on the spot and couldn’t leave till it was paid. I asked what about the rest of the state he said this is your pass for the day. I was glad not to be shoveling honestly. I don’t remember now but 2800 or so is what I think that cost me. I paid a couple out in Kansas over the course of the next ten years which were maybe 160 each over axle is how Littlepage wrote them.

I’ve been heavy most of my career if I’m hauling feed I get paid by the net weight in some form or other. If I’m moving them on the hoof I get a prorate so if it fits it ships. The buyer took care of both my run ins out in Kansas. My point is I’m so far ahead they ain’t ever gonna catch up to me. Some yall act like they can BBQ you and have you for dinner and that just ain’t happening

This "Bad Company" thread sure went off the rails. Now it's all about how drivers can run illegally overweight and get away with it. The way I see it, if a company expects a driver to try to skirt the law in any way, the driver should tell them to f-off.

Risk vs reward. When I pulled pneumatic if I loaded 28 ton on our backhaul then every 6 loads I got paid for an entire extra load. Same as hauling feed. Or hauling livestock when the rate is based on 50k and is prorated for more weight.

Well if you put it that way, I can confirm because im working there not much longer, that woody bogler pays nothing, you will make around 52k a year if your lucky and everything goes well. which in trucking it dosent. thats at 26 percent. and 52k a year is poverty today, especially if you have 5 years experience, and im not alright with hauling overweight, if something happens out here and your overweight your boned. and your company isn't going to help its on you.
