Best thing I did was to try tanker. Started out with chemical hazmat smoothbore tankers. Did that for a year and went back to flatbed. It made me a better truck driver in all aspects. Once that stress and pressure and feeling of smoothbore gets through you, it really never leaves you, and you will enjoy it more. If I go back to tanker I'm going as an O/O and back to chemical.

any nervousness goes away with time. The amount of time varies. However, itll be gone within 6 months being solo

I alternate with my partner driving a Vactor in the borough and the Uber/dollar cabs are the worst. Just pull u turns in front of you for no reason to pick someone up or head in another direction. Also equally bad with double parking to talk to someone when they could pull up 3 spots and pull in front of the hydrant for 5 minutes.
I gotta give them a dose of airhorn, get them to look at me for two seconds, and they stare, then go back to talking. No respect. But when their power goes out they beg us to work faster.Fairweather Thanks this. -

I run loads over the grapevine numerous times a week into L.A. and though it's getting better, when I get down into L.A. traffic loaded, I'm still always hyper aware, and puckered up lol. It's probably a good thing to be non-complacent in that situation, but #### it's tiring.Click to expand...Twistin' throttles Thanks this.

Last Easter, my wife and I parked the truck in Trenton and took the train in to Manhattan for the weekend. We grabbed one of those Ubers... ONE. This guy was doing like 60mph down a single-lane city street with cars parked bumper to bumper on both sides. There was less than 3ft. of clearance on each side!
We were thinking, "Oh my God. If anyone steps out from between one of those cars, we'll all be dead."
The old faithful Yellow Cab Co. got the rest of our business that weekend.Itsbrokeagain and MGE Dawn Thank this. -
