The refresher option is the best deal going. I drove for Swift for 6 months back in '09 and when I looked at going back to driving I got nibbles from a few companies that wanted me to pay for a refresher course. Averitt offered the three weeks out with a trainer PAID and it made the best sense, and to be honest I am thrilled to get on with such a good company with my limited experience and my time away from the cab.

I realize this is an old post, but I haven't checked in here lately.

I don't know how it compares to Werner, but I do know a guy on DG out of Oklahoma who enjoys it and is making good money being home every weekend.
But he is 20 years younger than me and doesn't mind the work involved.

No, they do not hire recent grads. I recruit for them. They have very strict policies and look for absolutely CLEAN records

I'm here in Ky. and we have had Averitt come in twice and one of our recent grads just started with them Sunday and just got out of class a few month ago. He told us to apply and when we get our CDLs they will pay you $600 a week with weekends off in training for five weeks. They also get credit for everyone that signs up with them. I'm in school for six weeks and companies are coming in begging for drivers. Teacher told us not to believe everything you read from the sites, and I saw this to be true. One guy just got his CDL last week and FEDEX just gave him a team driving job in a straight truck yesterday. I think the school you go to makes a difference.I think I made a great choice.

Averitt has a cpl of schools they will hire from . You need to find out if the one you attend is ok with them . Upon completion of your school you will be placed with a Averitt trainer for 5 weeks and then take your road test and go on your own . I have a 5 week student right now fresh out of cdl school .
