Very true. In my five weeks training so far we've been forced to take four 34 hour resets due to lack of freight and my trainer has had many times he doesn't drive for days in a row because we are dispatched with a schedule on a long haul that a solo can easily handle. I'm behind schedule for getting my BTW hours by about a week. It's all seasonal and freight dependent. My trainer claims that last holiday season his best month netted him $9K, going balls out with no resets with a good trainee. He probably made about $6-7K last month with me.

On the flip side of that it really is up to the trainer to push the schedule. My trainer seems to be getting burned out on running non-stop and turned down a hot JIT load a couple weeks ago, and I think that impacted our load availability and really slowed down our dispatches. Being a trainer really takes a commitment to teaching and to running as a team (with a rookie) with all the lack of sleep that entails.

From sept 15, 2012 to eoy My direct deposit was 29500. Of course, scales tolls and other incidentals have to come from that total.
1st qtr 2013, the DD total was only 18k. Truck was broken down a lot(dpf, sensors, and they took the entire top of engine off under warranty for leaks).

How much money a truck driver makes is a very hard number to get sometimes. Some people give you the gross. Some people give you the net. Some people just lie to you. And some people dont have a clue.

I am a trainer, I get 50 bucks a day every day I have a student on the truck. No teaming allowed. I also get 15 dollars if he passes the final test and 15 dollars a month for six months so long as he doesn't have an accident. I do not have a student at all times. Is it possible to get to 90,000? I would say no, if we teamed for a few Weeks then maybe but like I said, we don't team with students here at Schneider. In the end you do make extra but you must remember it takes a student a much longer time to do things. You lose a lot of time with them. Not 50 dollars worth but you do lose time.

But I enjoy training. You have to like it. Don't go into for the money cause you won't get rich.

I personally think you would have to be crazy to go to bed with a trainee driving. Especially when he only has his required 50 hours in.

Agreed, it seems a little ridiculous to me.

The trainers at my company get 300 a week when he has a student. The trainer and student also get all meals paid by the company. There is absolutely no team driving and the trainer is in the jump seat at all times. The trainer also gets .03 cents year round regardless if training.

Tynom, you should be drug tested if you believe that! Hell, half that figure would be a stretch! In order to make 10g's a month that truck has to run over 7000 miles a week! Not happening, especially with a trainee let alone an experienced co-driver!
