I decided to not have a CB in my truck 2 years ago after trying it for a few months. Occasionally but very rarely it came in handy but not enough so that I I found it worthwhile to keep. Usually when I turned it on there was always yahoo same stupid stuff or complaining or saying very inappropriate things. It became too much of a distraction and there was more frustration that I didn't want to deal with that outweigh the limited benefit that I got from having it.
Do truckers use the CB anymore?

The RF gain and squelch will get rid of that, if your not within a mile of me I don't really care anyway. The days of running my Ranger with a amp, and giving out bear reports just don't happen antmore. But the other day I had a strap come loose and was real glad that a CHP Bear gave me a yell so I could fix it, would hate to run one of them over, would have been a big mess, 45,000 lbs of super sack quicklime.

It all depends where u are how "busy" the CB is on the road. In El Cajon (San Diego area) ch 19 is busy all day long with locals yacking. Now I do wish they'd take it to another channel, but hey they're on the CB and it's music to my ears to not hear silence.
As you said, to drown out the clowns and loud mouths lower the RF gain and set the squelch correctly and you'll only hear someone within a couple miles of you, which is the whole idea of the radio to begin with - communications with others on the road. -
