Do we get our CDL before applying somewhere (Team)?

Old Dominion is probably the best choice pay wise.

 

The truck driving school is Central Tech in Norman OK but the school is two part, part in Norman and the other part in Drumright. I know cause my son just graduated it two weeks ago. As of about 10 minutes ago it looks like he is going to be working at Melton. YAY! The cost for the school is $4900. That cost will be covered by the Choctaw Nation for my wife, just like it was for my son. I already have my money saved up for it. We are not worried about the cost for the school we just wasn't sure if it would be easier to get hired as already having a cdl for up to 6 months with no experience or just do the company sponsored truck driving programs.

 

Hobby Lobby is good for teams.

No, in truth....it probably does not matter.

Schneider hired me....with no experience...after I had been out of CDL school for almost 2 years.

Since you guys will be a team -- it's highly likely that a carrier with respectable freight amounts would be all too eager to bring you aboard (if they are in fact in a hiring mode).

I would echo the above reply -- get your CDLs on your own.

Then -- you are not beholden to any carrier for any specific time, or other payback (& that's what I did).

Also -- most carriers offer some sort of tuition reimbursement -- if you stay with them long enough. Inquire within about the details, when talking to potential employers.

Something else to consider: spend some time thinking about what time of year that you & your spouse will go out with a trainer, on his/her truck.

More specifically: winter presents its own set of driving challenges for a big rig. Do you guys think you might want winter driving experience -- with & from a trainer? Then consider applying for jobs late in the fall -- after you both get a CDL.

Also -- because the job market for rookies is slow right now -- you can really take your time, & get those CDLs on your own.

You may well have more (& better) beginning opportunities later -- after the freight market has had a chance to recover some.

Note also: without question -- the most $ucce$$ful people I have met/witnessed in trucking -- were husband/wife teams.

And to that end -- as you each finish up getting your CDL -- go ahead, & get ALL of the relevant CDL endorsements: tanker, hazmat....& doubles/triples.

Don't let any of the world's "fraidy cats" talk you out of that hazmat.

Do you know how long you have to be at prime before you can train someone els.

 

Me and my bf are kind of in the same situation background we got our CDL independently of prime and he started with them ( I am a passenger) and I would like to get started driving also but I would like to train with him because I don’t think I could be with someone els for such a long time without going crazy…

 

Tell your boyfriend to ask that question to Prime.
This way he gets the correct answer.
