lol the government couldn't care less about how much we are paid, all they'd ever care about in terms of money is taxing our companies, taxing us and coming up with absurd ways to fine everybody along the way

It seems to me that the more government gets involved in anything the more messed up things become. People should be paid based solely on their performance. I think that most people should be paid on performance rather than being restricted by an hourly wage. Our forefathers didn't rely on the government to make their living or dictate what they should be paid. They forged a new territory relying on their own initiative and hard work. Had they relied on the government this country would likely still be a wilderness.

I don't understand how anyone could think that the government can solve their money problems or any other problem for that matter. So many people want to start at top wages. Well, that isn't going to happen. Life is a learning experience and we all must prove our value by honing our skills and maintaining a solid work ethic.

You can start at most any minimum wage job and gross around $320/week providing you can actually get 40 hours in a week at $8/hour. Or you can get your CDL and after a very short training period begin making $600-700/week.

If you don't like being away from home then this is not a job for you. If you can't live on $30-35,000 your first year, then this may not be the career for you. If you need to punch a clock or sit in an office or work on a factory floor with someone looking over your shoulder, then this may not be the profession for you. If you want a guaranteed weekly income, then this is not the job for you.

This business offers good opportunities for those who produce. You can start with one of the starter carriers and work your way up to the higher paying carriers. You can save your money, buy your own truck and become an owner operator or get your own authority and start your own trucking company. Those who have built this industry started with one or only a few trucks and built their empire as they saw fit. You don't need the government to force carriers to pay you a high hourly wage. You need a good work ethic and a plan.

Well said, G/MAN. Your point of an individual's own performance being the determining factor in his income and success in transportation is spot on. You left something out, though.

There are others who think that mere time in the job should determine rate of pay and position attained. The problem with this, as we have witnessed in other industries, is a group of people who develop an entitlement mentality. They believe skill and merit should take a back seat to simple longevity. They turn into politicians who are just marking time.

    Jarhed1964 and inkeper Thank this.

I agree, Injun. While I don't have a problem with rewarding those with some longevity, the primary criteria should always be based upon performance.
