Companies usually don't get rid of their top producers. Experience is one thing that will help you improve your wages due to learning how to better manage your time and to do your best. That doesn't happen over night. All companies allocate a certain amount of revenue for wages. Personally, I prefer paying or being paid based on percentage. By being paid on percentage you can earn a bigger paycheck when rates are up or the company you are with can negotiate better rates. The faster you can get your load off the faster you can go to the next one and make more money. But, on percentage, it can take some of the pressure off. I have had drivers whom I have paid over $1/mile on percentage. That isn't the norm, but some loads can pay that much to the driver. If that same driver had been working om mileage his pay would probably have been $0.40/mile or less. Carriers appreciate drivers who take care of their equipment, handle themselves in a professional manner and do their pickups and deliveries in a timely manner. Saving your company money is another way to help your pay. Drivers don't often equate saving the company money to them making more money. They don't seem to understand that when they take care of their equipment, reduce unnecessary idle time and keep a close eye on maintenance that it can result in higher pay. One reason some drivers never seem to make much more is because they are only interested in themselves and what the company can do for them. They never turn their truck off, steal from the company and don't seem to care about the maintenance. When a company has to spend additional money on maintenance, fuel and theft there is less money for higher wages. When a company provides health insurance that is also part of your wages, but most won't likely look at it that way.ECU51 and volvodriver01 Thank this. -
And now you have me wearing my favorite shirt

Now back to thread,,,,,Attached Files:

And the problem with this is?
(BTW...Since you brought up spell check... In this context, it's "you're" rather than "your." "You're" is the contraction of "you" and "are." "Your" is the possessive form of "you" and would be used if indicating an item belonging to the person being addressed.)volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
Oh goody....a thread I can relate to.
English teachers in chat and forums. And it would seem, trucking also.
Any prostate Docs here as well ?? -
Ok (or is it "okay") thanks for the update on English, now you might want to critique the OP if you find my little "Faux Pas" and or Gaffe this "egregious",
but it is funny that another person posted almost verbatim to a similar post i did a few weeks ago,,the same exact way,,man i need to keep up with the correct forms of english (spelling incorrectly in a rant is okay-fine tho huh)
Is that why you dont "trust me"? my incorrect usage of Your vs You're???
MEANWHILE back at the thread I was actually agreeing with G/Man
I personally would like to be paid salary for years worked but that is just me,Ive given this carrier a body of work that they know what they can expect out of me,, CPM is archaic in this day and age -
Great post,G,,Ive been at CFI/Conway for ten years now,and what you are saying is correct,,Ive seen plenty come with high ASPIRATIONS and leave when they couldnt cut the high EXPECTATIONS of this carrier(btw it really isnt that high) The new driver doesnt know better, the driver that comes from another company usually says something to the effect of;(Wasnt like this over at "You name the scrub company") or #### WTH do they expect??? and then they leave(all the while NEVER blaming themselves
-
Oddly enough, that's exactly what happens at Swift.
General note, not directed at any individual: I do not pick on anyone for his or her writing skills unless he or she picks on someone else first. If you're going to correct somebody's post, yours better be perfect. -
Tip of my hat for getting "yours" correct.
(you're obviously aware of what I mean)
Injun Thanks this. -
We seem to live in a society that refuses to accept responsibility for their actions. It is always someone else fault. We see it from drivers to the White House. There comes a time when we need to accept responsibility for our actions and life decisions. Those who are successful accept responsibility for their actions, learn from their mistakes and go on with their life.I still prefer that most people be paid on performance. I can see a way to pay drivers a small salary with a bonus if they reach certain goals. If drivers were paid on salary there would be minimum expectations for them to maintain their salary. I don't see it as being very practical in the otr segment of the industry.Injun Thanks this.
