I think that 99% of the gun laws in this country are unconstitutional and if we had the ability to take these cities and states to task on it.
The second amendment to the constitution is pretty dadgum clear. It says "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"
I believe that any law that restricts the ownership or posession of a firearm is contrary to the United States Constitution and therefore illegal. Say for instance Alabama wanted to reinstate a poll tax to prevent black people from voting, that would be unconstitutional because black people have a constitutional right to vote just as I have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms guaranteed me in the 2nd amendment of the US Constitution. Concealed Carry permits aren't much more than a money racket. $150 for the class, $150 for the local sheriff to get permission to carry a firearm that the 2nd amendment already gives me the right to do so. It sounds a heck of a lot like the afore mentioned poll tax.
Granpa never hauled a load anywhere without a 38 in the cab, and given today's situation where a truck load of whatever could be stolen and used as weapons or who knows what, I don't see why a long haul trucker or even short haul in some situations wouldn't pack.
I didn't used to pack in the job I do which is basically a property inspector. That said, meth labs have made it a necessity. I get out on rough rentals all the time and if there's a lab, there will be a pit bull or 2. I've got one client with a bunch of rentals that I've explained to him that the first one of those pits that comes after me is going to die, I don't care what his tenants think about it. I'm not going to get bit by one of those things just doing my job.

In some states, using the gun to enter property when you have not been invited and killing a dog that is only protecting the place is considered a crime. You have no rights to enter property without the knowledge of the renter and the owner.
I have dogs. The meter readers cannot enter my property without my knowing it. Sorry, but it is the law.
Just because there is a pit bull does not prove there is a meth lab. -

I am a landlord also. The renters have alot of rights concerning their property. The renter has the right concerning their possession. The owner has the right to enter the property. However, the rental building such as a house, not in our state without the renter approval.
I am also involved with the police department. Pit Bulls are one type of dog that is at meth labs. However, a pit bull is not the real indicator. -
First off, I don't go in the structure unless it's necessary, most of my inspections are external. Even so, I'm inspecting for insurance. The owner has called me, not the other way around. My job is to inspect the property for risks both fire and liability. Having a loose pit bull is a liability risk that no insurance company wants to tolerate, and I've been as up front as I know how to be. I'm not going to stand there and watch while someone's #### dog bites me. Prior to this job I worked for a utility company, and no, we didn't have to have your permission to go read a meter. Utility companies have right of way on any property where their lines cross over and may inspect their lines or perform necessary maintenance. Failure to allow a utility company access to your meter and or their lines that cross your property which they have a legal easment for can result in the immediate termination of service until your cooperation is given. I got bit once by a pit bull while running a string of powerlines in Eastern Kentucky. Yes, the owner got mad after I whipped the snot out of her dog, but she did sit there on the porch and watch the dog jump on me 3 times before it bit and got kicked back.
Legally, I don't have any business with their tenant. I can't discuss anything involving the owner's insurance with their tenant, so I'm not really concerned what the tenant thinks, if they've got a problem, they can take it up with the property owner.
In Eastern Kentucky, there is a meth lab on every other block. That's a fact and a well known one at that. If you are planning on a policeman or deputy to protect your hind end in a job like mine, you are barking up the wrong tree. I know for a fact that one individual locally caught a man attempting to cut the tailgate off a coal truck to steal it for the metal. It took 2 hours for law enforcement to show up and take charge of the criminal. We have 1 dog warden in this county of 1100 square miles. He works 37 hours a week. Wanna take a bet if he's on duty or not when you need him and which end of Egypt he's on?
I don't know if you've ever been to Kentucky or not, but in every county in this state, the Jail is a major financial problem. Kentucky's governor recently ordered thousands of non-violent criminals turned loose (yes, this included meth cooks) for the simple reason, there's not enough jail cells or tax dollars to handle the problem. The guy that cut that truck tailgate off was out on bond after he broke into our gun range buildings and was caught by the local PD in the act. His record is the size of a Wall Street Journal. He's out on bond again, because the county doesn't want to spend the money to hold him. In the last 3 months, he's done a couple thousand in damage at the club, stole a reefer unit off one of the trucks for the copper, cut the bumpers off 3 trailers for the metal, and burned the coal bucket to the ground. All In All, I'd say over $50,000 in property damage, and he's still loose.
The point is, we can't any longer expect the legal system to protect us from thugs, criminals, and stupid dope heads. Nobody is saying people should force their way into somewhere at gun point, but it wouldn't hurt to be armed just in case the need arises. The old saying that I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6 comes to mind. Make no mistake, these dope heads and thugs are armed.

Please, I am not trying to say you are wrong.
We have different rules up here.
Fortunately, we are not a prevalent with the meth labs in towns. Most of ours are in stolen campers and in the deep woods.
You are definately on to something about police help at times.
I just live in a small town and know most of them. -
Meth would surprise you. If you think it's not happening in your area, you are likely mistaken. I've seen meth labs pop up in the best subdivisions in town. Certainly outside of town, it's worse. It's got to be the worst stuff ever invented. Anybody stupid enough to put parts of batteries, chemicals such as brake fluid, draino, transmission fluid, either, and urine into something they put in their body isn't the sharpest pencil in the drawer. When you roll up on one of those places and you see 3 or 4 nasty kids in the yard and an un chained or locked up pitweiler running loose with neighbors and kids around, you can almost be positive you aren't dealing with a sane person and you have to be prepared to take care of yourself.

I am a licensed paramedic and volunteer firefighter. We have extensive training in recognition of these places. Believe me, it scares the crap out of me.
So far, in the actual town, we have only had a couple instances. We have had numerous ones that cook in the cars.
Several of my close friends are also on the ems and fire with me. Nothing would surprise me on this issue. -
Ah, then you know that it's not for no reason that meth labs are declared hazmat sites - and usually have to be demolished, since they can't be cleaned up to residential safety standards.
You probably know what a blue canary is, too
I'm unaware of any state that prohibits a property owner or his agent from inspecting the external aspect of the property: Yard, externals on the structures, etc.
In the same regard, though, I don't know of any state where the owner or his agent have the right to *enter* an occupied rental property structure (assuming it's occupied by a legal tenant) without occupant permission or a court order.
The type of dog and the nature of the yardmonkeys are only clues to the contents of the structure. House 3 doors down from me has 3 pit bulls that range the yard like ... well... pit bulls. I'd be absolutely flabbergasted if that house turned out to be a meth house. That sorta thing is typically not what octogenarian ladies do, after all.
On the other hand, I'd be fairly surprised if there were NO meth labs in my subdivision or the ones immediately adjacent to it. -
The policy is-
1: Only operate in states where I am legal with a CCW permit.
2: Open carry may be legal in some areas but stay concealed so you never let anyone know you are armed to avoid contributing to the terror of the public. (It is against the law to contribute to the terror of the public and if they call the police out of ignorance because they saw your gun the police still have to come make sure you are not doing anything wrong, even if you are legal)
Complete concealment also keeps the possible active shooter/killer from knowing what direction the bullet may come from that will stop them!
3: Practice with the gun often to stay proficient with your weapon, practice tactics to stay alive in an encounter.
4: Never try to prove anything to anyone while on the job regarding your right to carry, some just will not get the facts if you dropped the facts on their head.
5: Don't be a victim, fight back...........................................
Most companies have policies written prohibiting employees from carrying guns. In a society where law suits are continuously being filed they have no choice but to have this in place. Even if the company owner understands your right to defend yourself, Human Resources is hired to protect the company so that is one of the rules written. If an employee shoots someone to protect themselves, it is possible for the criminal's family members to file a law suit and win against the company "IF CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES CAN BE PROVEN IN COURT". My wife is SPHR certified and she has gone over these scenarios with me and I "HATE" them, but it is possible.
I own the truck and my company plus I am the only driver so I write my own company policy and I understand what I have been taught regarding my CCW permit rules as well.
I was audited by the FMCSA in Oct. 2007 for 1.5 hours at home and talked with the auditor from the NC Highway Patrol about guns in trucks. They were no more concerned with someone being armed in a truck than in their car. Police that have been shot during traffic stops are normally not shot from a CMV so why would the fact that you drive a truck be more of a concern to an officer, it isn't......Once police learn you have a CCW permit in a traffic stop the officers stress level goes down in most cases. Statistics prove criminals don't obtain CCW permits, the police know instantly you don't have a rap sheet if you have the CCW.
I was working in a restaurant in 1996 that was robbed by a man seemingly on drugs. I know the feeling of having a gun to my back while laying face down on the floor then being forced into a freezer at 1am in the morning after closing. We were fortunate not to be killed that night and I guarantee you there was a 50/50 chance we all could have been. I personally know a lady who's brother was killed execution style in the same style robbery along with the other employees. I have 4 precious children and a wife that I intend to go home to. I refuse to be put in that position again.
If you are law enforcement or other public service, "THANK YOU" for doing the job. Society needs you, we all do. However, the reality is most of you will never be able to drive up on a shooting in progress where you have been called to but will drive up on a crime scene where victims are already injured or dead and criminals are long gone. Or hopefully you drive up and the intended victim was armed so you find the criminal on the ground with a bullet in them instead.
I refuse to be defenseless again. Those of you that have never carried a gun, you may or may not think "it can't happen to you" just because it hasn't yet. I once didn't think I needed a firearm but realized one day if there are criminals that are willing and equipped to kill me and my family, why in the world do I think we are safer without carrying guns of our own.
"""As I have stated before in here, I am not advocating you break a policy of your empolyer ever. We each know the rules regarding out own jobs."""
If you are a law abiding citizen and know how to use a gun properly, I encourage you to carry "legally" and get extra training. I want you in the same stores, restaraunts, malls, parks ect where I am. If there is an active shooter/terrorist situation I just want them stopped! I am not concerned with if it's law enforcement that stops them or not, I just want them stopped immediately. A call to 911 just won't work fast enough.379 Peterbilt Thanks this.
