    {I've read recently that some folks were using Hornet and Wasp spray as a deterrent. Inexpensive and sprays a long distance. Is rumored to be very effective. Just a thought...haven't really researched the idea}

All you have to say was there was a wasp on that muggers nose I was trying to help him out....:biggrin_2559:

    LOL!

So I have looked at the FMCSA web site and do not see anything about carrying a firearm in the truck.

    There is no law.

You have to comply with the company you drive for or the rules of where you load or unload.

For the purpose of gun laws truck drivers are no different than anyone else in the jurisdiction. That's to say you have to comply with the same laws any visitor or resident would comply with.

If you are sent to NYC, you must comply with the nearly impossible NYC gun laws. If you go to Anthill, NC you must comply with their laws. When you drive through states and cities you must comply with their laws. There isn't a simple way to be in compliance everywhere you may go except to go unarmed and with no ammunition.

Most trucking companies don't allow firearms in their trucks so you risk immediate termination by the company if you carry, even if you are legal in the jurisdiction.

The smart bet is guessing right if you are more likely to need the gun or are you more likely to be discovered with the gun when you didn't need it. You'll only know if bet correctly after the fact.

The one thing I would never do is tell ANYONE if you carry a gun in the truck or don't carry a gun in the truck. That information is too dangerous to trust to ANYONE that still breathes each day. If you ever go to Canada, don't carry into Canada. Canada is more tolerant of illegal nuclear weapons than handguns. And it's illegal to mail a handgun or parts of a handgun by mail or FedEx and UPS so that's a complication.

i'm about to get into trucking, and do have a CHL in Texas. I don't care what anyone says about carrying, legal or not, I will always have my piece close by. I will just hide it and not tell anyone ever. What happens when you come into a situation and need it?? Not saying that happens often, and to most of us it never will happen. But the one time you do need your firearm, it's better to have it.

I have needed mine only once. I didn't end up pulling the trigger, but was prepared to if need be. I was attempted to be robbed by some guy a couple years ago. I was buying $1500 worth of TX/OU football tix and the dude who had them pulled a knife on me, and said for me to give him all of my $$. I asked him if he was going to give me the tix if I gave him the $$. He asked me if I have ever been stabbed before? I stepped back about 3 feet and quickly pulled out my .40 sub compact from my smart carry inside my pants and aimed it at his head. I then asked him if he's ever been shot in the head before?? Haha, you should have seen the look on his face. He ran and I let him run. Of course I wasn't going to do anything unless he charged me. So I ended up getting the tix off someone else who was legit.

Morale of the story is I've been in a situation only one time where I felt like my life was in danger. That's the only time I've ever had to flash my gun and hopefully the last. I will always carry or keep in my truck. You never know what can happen and peeps always think it won't happen to them.

Now, how hard can it be to hide your piece in your truck without your company knowing??

you obviously don't have what it takes to pull the trigger. it worked out that time, but next time, that hesitation will leave you on the ground with a knife stuck in your jugular.

sorry bro. you must not have a concealed license and know you have to do everything in your power not to use the firearm. I was prepared, but several feet away from him, and as soon as i flashed he got scared and i could sense it. I could sense that he knew I had the upper hand and he didn't want any. Look, I'm not bragging. I wish I didnt' have to pull it out. I wish I can say I've never had someone attempt to rob me. Truth is, I used my brain and got myself out of a sticky situation. You have to be extremely smart about all your options. If you decide to use it, I don't care what the situation is and if self-defense, you better be prepared to explain yourself and go thru a lot of questioning. FYI he pulled his knife but didnt rush. he thought that if he just pulled it out it would scare me enough to give him my money. who knows, maybe if i wasn't carrying i would have given into his demands as i didn't have much option, but that wasn't the case. he must be a rookie robber, because i'm sure a pro would have not pulled until he was close enough that i wouldn't have an option to do anything. i'm done explaining, but wanted to educate you on how to be smart with something as serious as shooting someone. my bro has taught a concealed class for 6 years and I always hear about dumb peeps thinking that just because they have the CHL they can fire away. doesn't work like that.

no, who searches without cause? what about keeping it tucked away in your bag somewhere? I mean, doesn't privacy stand for something? sure, if law enforcement has a reason to search your truck, then you may be screwed. how does searching work?

now this has been debated over and over for years and i have engaged in more then a few conversations about the subject. and this isnot to create another argument it is simply an answer to keep some out of troubel.

if you work for a company and there policy states that you cant carry a fire arm in there truck the obvious answer is you cant after all it is there truck and there company and they simply wanrt to avoid liabilaty.

but in those situations there are other ways to protect yourself one such method id simple and legal in all states, and that method is a can of either (starting fluid) nowq put can of starting fluid buy your seatr and if some oe jumps on you truck just give him a good shot i the face and he will drop like a brick and when he wakes up all he will have is a headach and you will be gone. no harm done but it will make him think twice before he jumps on another truck.

i do and always have carried and will continue to carry, its better to be tried by twelve then carried buy six.

and in most cases if you carry and you find it nessasary to defend your self you wont have a problem as long as your right and i mean your right not think your right there is a different , you cant shoot somone just because your afraid just wont wash.

even if you have a permit ot carry it is your responsibility to no the law and if you dont you will be charged acordingly.

as far as a company is concearned if they dont no what you have then you dont have to be concearned about it , most get in troubel while there showing off or playing with the #### thing, just dont do it, its nobodys business what you have or dont have.

now as i said i do carry and always have but nobody knows it but me, and im not a company driver buy any means.

a little common sense goes a long way and a truck driver story WILL NOT KEEP YOU OUT OF JAIL..

BEST OF LUCK TO ALL .----southernpride:biggrin_25513:
