I don't even go to CDL school til mid January. I'm pretty sure I'm not worried about however many million people know how I feel about guns.

Doesn't really matter how you feel about guns. It does matter how your employer feels about you having one with you (a firing offense in many places) and how the LEO who just inspected your vehicle feels about it if he happens to catch sight of it. Many states don't recognize the right for you to carry or the legality of a neighboring states' concealed carry permit. That could lead you into a hefty fine, forfeiting the weapon and maybe even some jail time.

I always hear that but I don't see how they'd find it. I go onto bases all over and I never get asked for more than my ID and if I know where I'm supposed to go. Unless they have some kind of space age sensors buried in the pavement, they're not looking at vehicles much.

It's been my experience that when visiting sensitive military areas and asked if carrying any photographic device, recording device or firearm, surrender them now ---- and pick them up on the way out --- it's best to follow their directions.
That's what was done, and that's the way it happened. All items returned as promised. No problems and no questions asked about the 9m/m Craftsman auto loader that was surrendered. It was placed in one of many small lockers, leading me to think more Big truck truckers carry than we might imagine.

I don't recommend not declairing anything on their list. You won't be in trouble if you do, but remember, once on a military base, it's a federal rap. Who can afford that?

I sure wouldn't leave a fireare in a room at any motel. :biggrin_25512:

I used to get a good laugh out of the cab drivers who were caught speeding on Lowry AFB in Denver when I was stationed there in the 70's...

Air Force security cops would pull them over, write them a ticket - cabbies would throw them out the window on the way off base. Funny, huh??

Until a US Marshall would hunt them down, drag them in hand and leg cuffs in front of one of the US District Court judges downtown. Those guys weren't amused to have their time wasted on such BS.

Generally, they did some time in the federal prison for those speeding tickets, along with the maximum fine that could be imposed. You really don't want to get pulled in front of a federal court judge for something like not declaring a firearm on federal soil... federal firearm charges tend to be felonies.

i was going to post a new thread on this subject but this came up. i am curious how exactly your truck falls in the law when you are parked for the night is it considered your home or is it considered a vehicle in the eyes of the law.

also a tip for cwp holders what i have done for years is i have a printed map with all the states highlighted that my cwp has reciprocity with. as well as notes on city regulations and such. and have been working on compiling ways to legally carry in the states that my permit is not valid in, a lot of states allow for vehicle carry in one way or another, were the gun can be loaded but must be locked in the glove box or you can carry a loaded firearm as long as its in plain sight, some difficult states the firearm must be unloaded and the ammo must be in a different location from the gun making it useless.

if i'm in a state where the firearm must be unloaded and ammo stored separately, if you stop for the night shut down and crawl back to the sleeper, with my interpretation of the law that the vehicle becomes a extension of your home just like a hotel room does. meaning that you can load the firearm and store it wherever you please.

I understand everyones point of view as far as carrying in the truck. I've been in places where I probably needed to drive with it hanging out the window-lol! However how do you get away with concealing in places like Laredo, Tx with that border crossing point for example and the one in Nm? Also what about when you have the unscheduled DOT checks. Personally I feel truckers need to have some sort of protection with these nutsos out here, I'm just leary about putting my livelihood on the line for it. Good luck and be sure to check your surroundings today!!!

My only comment on this is That Carrying in a CMV is not ILLEGAL, there are several DOT cops on this site, who have time and time again disproved the flase information about carrying in a CMV. The FMCSA says nothing about it as it is nothing BUT Regulations and not laws. THE FMCSA guide book you have in your truck is Simply regulations.
If you choose to carry in your truck IF your company allows it, (As most do not) YOU as the individual are responsible to know the laws of all the States you pass through.
YOU As an American Exercising your Second Amendment Have to have knowledge of the laws of the states you carry in.
concealedcarrylaws.org is a good place to start.

And anyone who wants to show me where it is illegal please quote the Statue, with the number etc and state or federal.
Do not spread misinformation unless you can provide proof...

A judge once tried to take my 2nd amendment away from me. It even said so on the worthless piece of paper that he handed me. Didn't work.

Do I carry? Only a fool or a LEO would admit to carrying.
Never kiss and tell.
