The thing that I dont understand the most is, we keep on blaming it all on the govt and other organizations. We arent even looking at ourselves as an industry. In the past 2 years that I have been driving shorthaul here in Columbus, OH, I have seen a rollover T/T somewhere here in the circle on the news on a DAILY basis. Just last week in Ashland a truck drove into a house. Not pointing fingers at any individuals, only we need to start looking at our industry as a whole. We have allowed all this to happen by doing nothing here on the ground level. Image is the most important. It can make or break a company and an individual. Until drivers want to change that image, we will continue to be the placemat down here on the ground floor. For example, I sit on a drivers safety board. I dont take the side of the driver nor the company, only SAFETY. Gives us drivers the opportunity to have our voices heard. Its just one small thing, but the small things can add up and make a difference. Its all about doing it and not just sit around complaining about it. Its up to us drivers to step up and do something about it. Most of all, help those that know-no-better. But, be honest like most already giving honest advice here on TTR(what I like most on here myself). Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now. Just my buffalo nickle worth. But, to the OP...my vote goes to the companys choice and drivers can take it or leave it from there. Be safe out there drivers.
Do you feel elogs should be mandatory or optional?

It doesn't make a difference what any of us think about whether they ought to be mandatory or optional. They are going to be mandatory whether anyone likes it or not.
Personally, I look forward to them being mandatory. In this thread alone we've heard from some who will sell the truck/get out of the industry when elogs are required mandatory. Unless they're talking out of their butts of course. But drivers would never talk out of their butts on the internet. Never.
But if we assume the drivers here are telling the truth and then multiply the segment of those in this thread who will leave by the size of the entire industry, it translates into significantly fewer drivers left driving. Significantly fewer drivers means more demand for that who are left. And more demand for those who are left means better pay for those who are left. Mandatory elogs can't happen soon enough as far as I'm concerned.DrtyDiesel, Autocar and peterd Thank this. -

This is a funny thread. E-logs make the road a much safer place. All those guys I see sitting playing games and a 100 other things except sleeping on their break must be sleep walking for hours. They tell you when to stop but the cant make you sleep. The biggest problem with trucking today is all the guys that really have no other choice because all the decent jobs around that were lost due to the economy. Way to many guys were some what forced into this and really shoudnt be doing it.
