It is not the e-logs I have problems with. I like them, period.

It IS, however, the archaic rules and the feeble attempts by our illustrious government to legislate a "perfect" society, pandering to the special-interest groups while ignoring anything that resembles common sense and level-headedness. It is the constant, nagging need of government to pigeonhole all drivers into a nice, tidy little box for which there is no hinge on the top. It is the idiot segment that thinks that eight hours driving time is plenty (and you mean you don't get bored and sleepy just sitting on your overly self-important ###, madame??).

It is the cluster of over-educated, under-informed #######es that think their piece of paper means they can think for a few million safe, experienced operators.

It is us. For we sit here and suck it up like a Margarita on Saturday night.

The way some people keep trying to argue the need for E-logs makes me want to post the same valid post I have already stated. I should post it over and over and over again like the way some post the same crappy arguements non stop trying to validate the E-log bullcrap...

I just think if they do go mandatory. In which everything is pointing to that. It would be nice if they would allow those who have safe driving records to be allowed to go beyond the hours. That way more drivers would be more safety conscious, and safe drivers could be paid better and treated better by companies instead of the 1 size fits all category.

I have only 7 hours left on my 70 and not gaining anything till midnight Saturday. I could run tomorrow and Saturday perfectly safe. I do believe if everybody did get them and did try to do it the governments way. It would be such a slow down that the government would get their act together to make better improvements. I know its a pipe dream, but hey its the internet. Think big baby!! You guys have a good nite.

They've had 20 years to get the cdl problems straightened out, and they're still working on that.

These EOBR will NOT happen overnight......

    they should be optional

    along with other statements,

tracking your drivers because they can't do the job you hired them to do, send them packing

i run paper logs and have no tracking on my truck...

you know what the company does if they need to talk to me? they pick up the phone.... doesn't seem that difficult to me

Think about it, why should i be forced by Goverment to spend money on something that is not needed. There is no proof of EOBR's being safer then paper. Why do most trucks in the ditch in the winter have EOBR's on them. Might as well say CARB is nothing but truth.

The argument here goes round and round about how Elogs, EOBR's, or whatever one wants to call them will not make things safer. I think we all can agree, whether we use them or not, that there is nothing that will make everything safer. Humans are at the controls of trucks, and human error will happen no matter what.

And government uses a "safety" smokescreen to justify implementing this stuff. Or it would be better to say, the mega carriers are using this argument to convince legislators to implement this stuff. The same arguments are used for smoking. The government will holler about how unsafe it is, just so they can tax the product more and get more money. If they were really concerned about the negative health effects, they could just ban the stuff. But, Noooooooo. That would screw up their gravy train.

With the current nanny state mentality, Elogs are going to be mandated. Period. It is a stupid, out of control government that is the problem. Personally, I like using Elogs. Saves me a grip of time keeping things in order. I like GPS, Qualcomm, Cell Phones, etc. I spent a lot of years tracking down pay phones, and waiting in line to use it, not having quick communication with office, customer, etc to make load planning adjustments on the fly, not having nice detailed directions into a customer sent via the qualcomm, and the list goes on and on of things we take for granted now that makes life a lot easier than the "good 'ol days". Some seem to like the "good 'ol days" of trucking. New Flash: The old days weren't all that good, and tomorrow is not as bad as it seems. (thank you Billy Joel).

People whined and hollered and said they would quit back in '91 when CDL was mandated to begin in '92. Some did. But now we don't even give it much of a thought. I bellyached, right along with everyone else, when the 11/14 HOS came about, and then again when we lost the split sleeper berth provision. We have all adjusted and are making things work. Now this Elog thing comes about, and we are having the same epileptic seizures we had before. We will adjust if it finally gets mandated. And something that I mentioned earlier in this thread will hold true, it can help cover a person's bacon in the event of some ambulance chasing lawyer wants to go after you. That is the one thing in all this that people are failing to grasp. Elogs can have some benefits. And with the way this country has become lawsuit crazy, having something to back you up is not necessarily a bad thing.

If the only good thing about E-logs are so an ambulance chasing lawyer has no ground to stand while trying to sue me then I will take my chances and run paper. 1 good thing for E-logs and 10 bad things hardly justifies them I would think. Just my thought.
