Well..... This thread sure did take a hard left turn rather quickly.

Yeah it looks like I job hop. All this has been over 15 yrs. Almost half on my list was acquired at 1 employer. Some places maybe a few months because believe it or not employers will lie straight to your face. Especially during a recession when when they are hard up to find someone who can pass a drug test.

If you are bored, just think about those who are disabled and can not get around. What do they use? Think Stephen Hawkings. Your mind can take you many places, learn a different language, write a book, start playing a musical instrument.

Yes, maybe not really, I work in the city for a food company it's a lot of the same stops and things everyweek, but it's a challenge and steady job and pay check and that's way more important then anything else.

We went to England back in the 80's and thankfully the place was predictable. Rail service between suffolk and london puts American Amtrack to shame. 4 bucks and 100+ mph in london by breakfast. Home by dinner from 120 miles away. No car needed.

Now Mildenhall AFB, home of the 8th in those days and Nuclear Strike was happening in those days.

I understand so much has changed and not necessarily for the better there. The fun part was having the Concordes leave town at heathrow. They will be in NYC like 3 hours. Took us 11 via Bermuda when we got back. (Concorde ticket one way was around 3000 I think in those 1980's dollars)

I would not mind visiting Hesse Kassel and perhaps Malancourt or Ely Cathedral one more time, but I don't think that will happen in this lifetime. I have too much damage accumulated. Google Earth will just have to serve.

There is one place I do miss. St Michaels. Seafood. Hopefully that Dockside Eating place is still there.

Do you know if they started field burning where you are roughly this time of year yet? Or are they holding off?

As a society we're WAY too overly entertained. Advertisers want a screen everywhere. The day truck stops put a TV screen at the diesel pumps so they can 'entertain' us while we ought to be inspecting our trucks is the day I pay extra for them to come fuel mine where it's parked.

We're constantly 'taught' by all of this entertainment. Constantly marketed to, constantly talked at by news media and have you noticed there are 5 around a table where one is more than enough? Most haven't noticed this. It's epidemic.

All that said, the info and entertainment you WANT and probably NEED is more at your fingertips than every before.

Turn off the TV. I don't have one in the truck. A laptop is more than enough and portable.
Throw the CB out the window. Do you need extra daily drama and some idiot's political views to get your pulse up? Try coffee.
Stop talking to people for the most part. I mean it. The chatter at truckstops and docks makes you dumber. These people hate their lives and take it out on you. They're just waiting for a scandal to entertain them. If you want to talk to someone talk to someone smarter than you. Learn by osmosis.
Listen to podcasts. Listen to music, audiobooks, Ted talks, even Youtube videos. Way too boring to watch most of those. I just flip my phone over and listen to most of them. I don't mean instant karma/car chase crap. I mean informative stuff.

I've jumped around jobs a lot too. I've been told I was 'overqualified' for stuff that I thought would be fun. I don't even have a college degree. Only thing interesting in college to me had legs, so I married one and quit.

Sounds like you've got the experience to do whatever you want.

Sorry to write you a book, but books are good. Try books.

Like I said I'm not moving to a new job. Just maybe thinking ahead. Some of you are happy with the same routine, and if that floats your boat. I find what I do to be easy, but effort and thought is very much required. This is not a job you can jump into straight out of school. And, if someone does put you in a frameless dump right out of school. Then they should be punched in the face hole.

Some find the jobs we do to be extremely hard, dangerous, unforgiving, and it can be. I find that other company drivers have to me to find the best route, or how to do this or that. Whether they call or the boss tells them to call is irrelevant. Most have more experience than I do. They maybe just don't think like I do.

I sure most of it is just me.
