You have to remember U.P. is regulated by the federal government, lots of and lots of rules, my GCOR (rulebook) is a #### encylopedia of rules.

Now as far as cuttin the crossing as we call it and what your referring to, when I a conductor and was gonna cut a crossing I would try to cut off at a siding but if the dispatcher say negative Im sticking the UP 5567 in that siding you will have to cut MAINLINE mean do my work right there as the stacked up cars watch, then you have to, dont think for a second I havent been a car and had to sit and watch them cut cars and hell I know what there doing and I get upset.

The authority without trying to sound like a Nazi, you have to remember take Swift they don't own the highway, U.P. owns there highway and if Im not on my highway (in my case) I'm on BNSF highway with permission so either way I'm on private property at all times, when I spot up say Tropicana O.J. I'm on there property.

Now Techinically and NO IT WOULD NEVER EVER FLY OF COURSE!! but the railroads could techinically make the cities and counties build bridges over the tracks, its on the good gracious of the railroads that they allow cars to run over there tracks, that 30 feet wide spot is private property allowable for public use by the railroad, as is wal marts parking lot.

Up until recently the railroads were the biggest land owners in the U.S. now the government is, and how did the government accomplish this you ask, the railroads sold them the land!!

But Okie dont fret, the F.R.A. (GOV.) busts our ### daily.

I had a CIT who got laid off, and went to drive trucks. He was asked back 2 months ago and denied the offer. Apparently he is a team driver with his brother and don't wanna let his brother down, they bought a truck and went trucking when he got laid off!!!

I just searched Norfolk Southerns site and there are quite a few conductor trainee positions available throughout the U.S.

I have often thought of looking into the RR. I have been told they like to recruit from the military. I know CSX, BNSF, and NS are always advertising in GI Jobs magazine.

The part I'm struggling with is the on call 24/7 and if you get a scheduled day off someone always bumps and takes it away. I'll decide by tomorrow.
Plus you can't be more than two hours away from terminal at any given time.

Ah the extra board blues, but you should know your rotation in and out all you gotta do is Lay-off thats 24 hours and puts you back at the bottom so your lookin at 48 hours off, you just gotta know that #### computer took me years to able to whip that thing to my advantage!!

If you have a good truckin gig going don't leave, as you know we may not be out weeks at a time but if that board is turnin and burnin, sleep,RR,sleep,RR NO LIFE!!!!
