I scan every BoL and company trip envelopes and save to my documents on my computer. Takes just a couple minutes and gives me a record of every load I've done. Has came in handy before when someone misplaces my trip envelope or the mail loses it. Plus I've been to shippers that all the sudden want to see BoLs from last three loads. Don't have to wait on company to fax them down, I just print them off.

So there are instances when having a copy on file would clear up a discrepancy in pay, or perhaps clarification of a log entry perhaps, or somethings such as those? In general it is a good idea to keep them for 90 days or so, then?

I keep a note book and write all the information on it, IE pick up dates, time, address, etc. I also label the page. After I scan the documents, I write the page number from my note book and staple it. That way, it's easy to find if I need it. OR, if they say "we never got it," and now you're short on your paycheck...

Keep 'em for 2 months per company request, then they find the garbage.

I do, however, have a stack of log books from my first couple years of driving that I can't seem to part with.

I scanned every piece of paper that went through my truck. CYA.

I think the company was nervous about it at first. After they lost a couple BOLs and found I could replace them, I think they came around to my way of thinking.

If I kept every BOL and log for the last 33 years I would have to own a warehouse bigger than a Wal-Mart DC !!!

I toss everything that I do keep after7 years max .
And I don't keep much just what the feds might want to look at down at the IRS.

We throw ours in the garbage after two months. We Transflo & make sure our check matches our miles.
