There's a local outfit in central NH that doesn't allow smoking in any company vehicles. They had an opening for a driver a few weeks ago.

Have to be experienced with log hauling though. Their ad was on craigslist if you're interested.

I work for one of their competitors, so I don't know anything more than what their ad says, and it specifically mentioned no smoking in company vehicles.

Since we've got into the realm of philosophy..... to each his own, people can make their own choices. To control the truck environment, your best bet is to own the truck.

As to damaging others equipment; I would say that those who deliberately beat on the truck assigned to them because It's not as nice as they want, do way more damage than a smoker ever could.

Good luck. (A smoke might ease your nerves though :biggrin_25523: )

The response rate was 40.5%. Among white males, the age-adjusted prevalence of ever smoking was highest among longhaul truck drivers (67%) and lowest among clerks (44%). Smoking rates among workers with other job titles were similar. ChaCha!

Doesn't mean that I have to like it.

I never asked if you liked it. I asked if you were over it.

Do you own any trucks that have been "destroyed" by smokers?

    Didn't think so.

Its irresponsible smokers that make a nasty truck. My first driving job the boss didnt allow smoking. I drove a pete with cloth interior and smoked in it day in and day out. He constantly praised me for having the cleanest, best smelling truck in the fleet. I smoke and I also refuse to have a nasty truck

No I am not over it yet.

No, I have not owned any that were destroyed by smokers, BUT, I have cartainly had to clean a few of them before I could think of driving or living in them. Even after cleaning they still stink!

Thankfully most truck stops are non-smoking now days. Nothing worse then taking a shower and having to walk through a smoke cloud to get out of the place and stinking afterwards.

We had more filth, mess, damage from sloppy drivers and the one we let take his dog with him. Pizz bottles, food wrappers, chicken bones, etc just carelessly thrown around in the truck. The one driver with the dog never attempted to keep up with the fur that his dog was shedding. We have 2 dogs, labs, and we sweep the hardwood floors about every other day. The smokers always kept Febreze or some other air freshener/cleaner with them all the time. I hate it when people generalize others! :biggrin_25510:

I don't know of any, but I'm sure there are some out there and they probably do advertise that fact. I hear non-smokers are in great demand./

Does the smoke gum up the engine or something? Or does the truck run despite the smoker behind the wheel? How does the smoke destroy the truck exactly?

Could be because the company doesn't give a rat's behind if they smoke as long as they get the load to its destination in one piece and on time. This is a company's bottom line, they don't care about the smoke if that driver is doing his job, and last I looked the company calls the shots. If you want to whine about the smell in the truck from smokers, why don't you just tell the company how you feel about it? That ought to go over really good./ Doesn't your company detail their trucks before a new driver gets in them? No? How about you do like so many others before you did and just clean it? If it still stinks? Go back and clean it again, you didn't do a good enough job the first time.

Is anyone making you drive that truck? I wish you luck in another profession. I hear they can't smoke at McDonald's. Why don't you do like others have suggested and buy your own? This way you can call the shots and this will free up your time and allow you to find something more constructive to complain about. :biggrin_25523: Smokers aren't the worse thing to hit the trucking industry, if you hadn't noticed.

i used to smoke, don't now. i no longer like the smell of cigs or the left over smell from smoking. thats my business. if u or some you know smoke, thats yours or theirs business. if i get a truck that someone smoked in, i'll clean it up and make it smell better, pretty simple really, not a big deal. as far as i know the truck will work fine from a mechanical stand point. if someone smokes in a truck( company truck, their truck ) thats between them and who owns the truck. if you don't want a truck thats been smoked in, don't take the job. or take the job and clean it up, or ask for a brand new truck thats never been smoked in. these options are all within YOUR rights. the same rights that allow SMOKERS to smoke in a truck, if the owner of the tractor says it okay. as far as truck stops, i agree that its good their nonsmoking since if they want me to spend money there it should be a comfortable enviorment for me. but still if their state law allows smoking then it's the right of the owners to have smoking or not. you see it's all about cooperation, mine and your right to not smoke, anybody elses right to smoke if they so desire. i don't have to get in their smokey truck. and they can't smoke in my truck. this could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on----------------------------------------------------bla bla bla.
some folks smoke, some don't. there are alot of more important things to be mad about, i guess, just saying, ya know.
