    It's really hard.

In fact. When we got the GPS on the laptop, we discovered that counting seconds between yardsticks showed around a 62 mph speed not 65 that was indicated on the dash board speedometer, throwing us off our trip planning.

GPS revealed a max of 63. We took the evidence into the shop they yelled and pointed us to safety for counseling. (Speedometer was broken...) safety told us that was a secret company speed for purposes of saving insurance premiums for self insurance. How much is it worth to you to keep my mouth shut?

We are so over it. Frankly 63 is plenty. But not when they feel the need to decieve us the professional about it by software configuring the truck to show incorrect readings. Makes you wonder what else in that 18 wheeler is a lie?

I've always attributed that to sensors not bein matched correctly in the rear end to tire size but who knows. I drive for an owner op and it's the same way. Governed at 62...truck shows 65...8high might as well be a phantom gear cuz I only drop about 2 to 300 rpm to get up to 62 from the 58mph@1500 rpm range in 8low. It's an old Werner truck so it's geared to be a fuel sipper not to make the flips i make with it, do I hate it?? You bet..but until I finish saving up my caterpillar money....I make it work. We can all make each other's day a bit easier that's all I'm saying

At least Abilene Motor Express trucks run 68 mph. Not many companies doing that speed these days.

I worked for a couple of companies that did just that. For example, the speedometer would show 68 when you were actually running 65 or 66. One company the mechanic would set it that way if he didn't like a driver.

Speedometers being off by 2-3 mph seems to be a growing trend, unless both of you are driving trucks from a fleet leasing company like we are. Kindof like the company we're leasing from also having the power dialed down to a minimum, in theory to maximize engine life.

That mechanic finally was fired, but not for that. He got real ####y with the terminal manager so he was told to pack his tool box and get off the property. The dispatchers witnessed his firing and said he was begging to keep his job, but the terminal manager had enough of his smart mouth.

    Amazing how that happens.

You run up on someone because they're crawling along. You pull out to pass them, and then all of a sudden they mash on it when you get next to them, only to slow back down once you fall in behind them again.

I see it all day long.
