I guess it depends on a number of factors if its worth the hassle with all the paperwork and dealing with brokers and so on , not to mention if u pick one and it takes u a little out of route that is extra fuel cost and if u get held up at a customer it could sabatoge ur whole trip and that is alot of phone calls to make . All i know is some of the better flatbed and drop deck companies run a lot of partials but they have their own customers as well. I think it would be a nice setup if u could get a regular cross country route and pick ur partials in between. Or finding ur own customers in a lane u run regularly rather than trying to pick it off the boards

    Are you non CDL?

That bobcat would be a partial for my weight limit so I probably would’ve grabbed it had circumstances been right.

As a hotshot I often thought about a triangle route say Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati because of the small light weight opportunities. Never got around to trying it. I had a gig carrying Bank Vault Doors they were going long distance and payed good for a guy starting out. They picked up in Ohio and a small time broker had them, now I believe XPO has them.

When they was raised in a communist country and not taught critical thinking or how to think for themselves that is what you get. Trouble is when they are over here they get taken advantage from their own people. Some of them get into brokering and their countrymen end up taking advantage just like before. A percentage of them don’t realize they can negotiate because they have never seen it. They seem to be hard working, but set in their ways.

At the moment I'm running non CDL. I have my CDL, but I started with a truck I already owned a 2005 F350 SRW. Due to already having that truck and because it was quite a bit cheaper to set up I'm running non CDL for now. My intent is to make it through winter while my MC ages a bit then get a 450 or 550 in the summer and go from there.

That's kinda the way I was trying to run the triangle route so I could go out a week then come back home by the weekend. Was trying to get FL to the Carolinas then to N Ohio/MI area then the big money load back into FL. I just can't ever get anything decent out of FL though.. My triangle has a bad point on it.. lol

If I can get the loads it's a 5 day run..I've done it before but I cant get the loads lol

What’s your size and weight limit?

What percentage of brokers that’s you’ve called won’t use you because of MC age?

I'm doing the under 26k my truck is 8,100lbs Trailer is 6,500lbs so in theory 12k lbs but I try to stay under 10k on the trailer.

as far as MC age.. luckily I'm almost 3 months now so almost 90 days but I'd say 10-15% of the brokers I've called have turned me down due to MC age. With that said I have talked a few into using me that had age limitations due to them either needing the load moved or me being able to tell them that I've driven Semi's and I've had my CDL over 2 years.. Was actually just turned down on Wed for a load due to MC age.. so yeah it is a factor.

Hey 10-15% ain’t bad I was expecting you to say half or more...

Having professional phone etiquette helps if you can sell yourself you’ll overcome some of those age restrictions like you’ve already done.

crocky and Lite bug Thank this.
