Better check that math. 10K divided by 2.75 for a gallon of diesel is 3,636 gallons. Say you are burning a gallon per hour and a half run time, that would be 5,454 hours you saved by turning off your reefer. At 4 hours per consignee, that would be 1,363 consignee's you turned your reefer off on in that year. You must be running more than one elog to get that much done.

You mentioned that you had your reefer OFF, and you periodically checked the temperature. What were you going to do if the receiver had a temperature issue with your load of yogurt? If the receiver requested a print out from your reefer, you would be having a claim. Maybe it was not the right temp when it was loaded, but you wouldn't be able to show that your reefer maintained the proper temp. Tattle tales don't always work

if SOME pallets were off temp we all know whose problem that is...
great west has some jargon and its stated differently than reefer breakdown. your reefer can break down as long as the product is within spec you are good!!!
my reefer broke down on me and took 5 hours to fix , something i couldn't fix, 90* frozen box got 40* but by the time it got to the cosign it was within spec!! alot of stuff we haul can have wild swings. seems like you run continuous alot?? I only run continuous WHEN ITS FROZEN AND REALLY HOT OUTSIDE. seems like it saves fuel. when I do haul produce i make sure what it is I aint running continuous for no 35* load. and sure as hell not doing it for meat.
the broker tell you to run continuous on meat...I just shake my head lol yea ok!!! MOST BROKERS DOnt know A #### THING!!
my lease op goes back and forth to fla hauling produce AND EVERYTIME coming out of fla some STUFF GETS REJECTED whole foods walmart-- all the big boys... they always load him too hot but we always get other buyers. this is why I stay away from produce for the most part too sensitive to temps deltas im not waiting all day for the cooler either off the field.

While I agree, as I do the same. While at a receiver or shipper I go by their rules.... when my air guage on my tractor shows empty I turn off my reefer. What I am telling you is not to criticise or insult you. I am trying so save you a major headache. Some receivers are extremely picky, and target is one of them. My friend had a load rejected at Target in Lake City because the temperature was off several degrees. He ended up buying the load. Luckily he sold most of it, but still had an out of pocket expense of $4k. You never know who will complain and report your reefer is off, a yard jockey , lumper service ect.... My advice is do what ever the receiver wants while at their dock, thats what I do.

c&s is another one that will kick the load for reefer off, and In vt there is no forward and back, you drop the trailer because the next guy will take your hood off. I’m aware of how reefers work but someone at that receiver went to collage to tell them reefer on and no truck driver is ever going to tell him (or her) they are wrong....

as much as I hate leaving a $1000 bulk head to the will of the idiots on the dock, they are great to have, open the doors and it stays ~-5 (set) with the doors open

I'm new to reefers, but I don't see what the gain would be, as mentioned in a previous post... of shutting the reefer off if the ambient is near the BOL temps... if it's that close, the reefer won't be running anyhow. You save nothing, and only invite potential headaches. What, you're worried about your reefers battery going dead, or something?
