Better companies will provide or pay for a second phone.

It is the crap companies that mooch off their employee.

yeah, then you are tethered to them..

that is to say, if they provide the phone, they expect it to be turned on 24/7/365

if they help pay for yours, same thing...

no thanks. i like turning it off.

    BTDT...no more for me.

The tether was tied when employment started, there's no way out. Those tethers change jobs when you do.

Would you like one or two tethers ?

I did estimates, scope of work, invoices, and printed them out right in front of the customer off my cell phone with a printer in my pick up truck. I also collected payments using my cell phone with the Square app.

Tax write off, and it made me pretty good money.

Not necessarily any more than the crap companies that mooch. They have and can fire employees that don't answer their own phone.

The mega crap companies depend on the driver for picking up the tab for hours of wait time on the phone waiting for company mistakes to be fixed.

If they had to pay the driver for his time, the phone calls would not be needed. If they had to pay for the phone calls there would be no wait time. Everything would be more efficient. Desk jockeys would be more responsible for their job and the mistakes they made. No pay - no responsibility.

Not necessarily true if you're with a better company.

I turn mine off if I want. I don't answer it if I want. Even in the truck. If it's that important and I'm at home they call back later. If I'm in the truck and they need me right now and I don't answer they'll send a message on the box.

Doesn't stop that allowance on my check each month and never heard a word about ignoring them on weekends on home time

That type of tether can't be seen by the human eye, the invisables are there hiding in plain sight. Kind of like Facebook and Google
