Where I learned to drive...
Schneider 1996, they trained us in Charlotte, NC , 10 speed on the doghouse.
LOL, training school back then was you actually teamed in a bunkhouse for a month running cross country team loads and then Schneider forgave the debt for school. I actually did meet Don Schneider, he came down from Green Bay every month to Charlotte.
My first solo Cabover was an IH 9600 with a series 60 at 350. Ten on the doghouse. No A/C. 750K miles on my first "new to me truck", fresh outta the shop.
I was ballin'
Cruise control was the twist "Idle up" fixture on a cable with the punch off button.
Good times for a 22yo fresh outta the military
Does anyone Daily drive a K100e anymore?

Hell yeaaa! Thats a crazy tale, 1 month of trucking to pay off the school is peanuts compared to the indentured servitude these companies are demanding nowadays...Tug Toy, Gearjammin' Penguin, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this.

There’s a white and red one down in Mexico where they put the cab on a modern chassis but I can’t find a pic of it.Tug Toy, Rideandrepair, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this.

You were low on oil when it stopped leaking. I was also told to slam your finger in the door, and drive them like you were mad at them,,
Tug Toy and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
I would think just having to drive the piece of #### would make you mad enough to begin withVampire, Tug Toy, 201 and 1 other person Thank this.

Well, it's like anything, at the time, we didn't really think they were a POS, as we didn't have anything to gauge it by, all trucks were a POS then, at least the ones I drove. Clearly, take someone from todays rolling apartments, and put them in "pigpens" Crackerbox GMC,, they wouldn't make it a block and quit.Tug Toy, Gearjammin' Penguin and Hammer166 Thank this.

Dad in 1970-71 hired on with Southland Corp., dedicated route from Madison WI to South Florida every week. Diamond REO COE, w/sleeper. Detroit 230(ish), with 13sp transmission, Dad said ‘used every one of those gears’ all day long.
Tug Toy, Hammer166 and ElmerFudpucker Thank this. -
