and you think that got torn from the straps????
or do you think that JUST MAYBE. some fork lift or other semi JUST MIGHT have ran into it. OR, something else hapened to tear it off.
i've only been doing flats for 2 years but someone is going to have to explain to me how a strap can tear off a rail. cuz i'm totally clueless.
Does anyone else think this is funny?

must likely the rub rail was cracked before. .. your friend needs to do a better job inspecting his equipment.Last edited: Jun 4, 2013
snowwy Thanks this. -
What is that hanging out from the trailer in front of the tandems? Looks like he left a storage box open.
-
Most rub rails do not have a WLL on them, therefore they don't qualify as a securement point. If every one of those straps is to the rail, and it has no WLL rating, it's as though he has zero straps.

Wow! Does anyone want to explain to the guy all the things that are wrong with this statement? Then again this statement is so ridiculous I think he must be kidding. Probably just being sarcastic.

I can't see any major problems.
I personally don't run my straps outside the rub rail but I have no problem if someone does.
I applaude the guy on the liberal use of straps. I don't understand when someone gets down on someone for "over securing". I timed it one day and I figure its one minute per strap which includes throwing it over and winding it up when i'm done. Not alot of time in the grand scheme of running freight cross country.perufb and hotrod1018 Thank this. -
Some trailers are rated for rub rail securement. The reitnour maximisers that I pull are rated at 5600lb on the rub rail for securement.
Personally ill put a half twist in straps when they are over a load that's narrower than the trailer I'm pulling when the load has a crush factor in it. Keeps them from flapping. If one flaps: it has worked it's way loose.
the driver in the picture certainly has a lot of straps...his time n energy...no such thing as too much securement so they say
truckon Thanks this. -
straps are sup to be INSIDE the rub rail per DOT regs.....i dont remember when it came into affect....but it is indeed law now......didnt use to be.....
-
He hooked all the straps to the outside rail, when he had it strapped they dropped thru the rail run outside and was hooked. If you think that little 3" weld ever 10" will hold 48,000lbs when it's shifting you need to think again......I don't think he had the straps tight I would have never believed it if I didn't see it my self all the welds are broke

gheez, I guess auto transmissions are going to be mandatory next. apparently it is unsafe to take one hand off the wheel or glance at a truck passing by while driving down the interstate. what a bunch of namby-pambies !
Makes me wonder how these guys ever make a delivery in Chicago or something if they can't even fathom the idea of shooting a pic while cruising on the interstate.
