Supposedly some variances in the immigration rules makes it easier for an immigrants from overseas to get work in Canada than an American from the employers side.
Does anyone have any info on Big Freight Systems?

That's about to change Flatbed. Alberta is opening the door to Americans to come and work in the patch.

I worked for BF in 08. The guy that made the videos was also there at the time and he showed me how to put all the videos together. Very cool stuff and good software.
Bad part about BF.
Keep idle down to 5% but won't put in APU's. So when your sitting someplace hot, you roast. I ran the truck for the A/C and always got ^&*% for it. No fridge in the truck so you bring your own. Fridge kills batteries to bad, was told to unplug the fridge. DO NOT RUN THE TRUCK. The only way to run the truck was to cut a stick and run it that way. Was promised runs west and south. Spent most of my time in Quebec and eastern US. Pay was bad also, most of us didn't make much. 85% of the loads are tarped, but remember not to run the truck when you need to cool down. Not many Canadians work there, mostly people from Russia, Germany and England. They do there 2 years and move on. Would I work for them again. NO.
Oh ya. Trucks are not governed at 60, but at 58.The Big T Thanks this. -
In your opinion what would be the best Winnipeg/Manitoba company to run for?

How about Paul's Hauling ????

oriden: Although I am a newby your question cannot be answered as it is far to open . Do you want long haul, gravel, deck work, city p&d, US or Canada. Also when you become a green driver your choices are very limited. Unless you are in one of the mentoring projects there are only a few carriers that will hire fresh drivers. Some of the smaller outfits will hire but you would not want to work for them. Old equipment and very low pay. I went for an interview with a flat deck outfit that is based in Ontario but has a small yard in MB. They do not have an office. I waited for the interviewer and looked for some trucks. I saw one old KW in the corner that I thought was a parts vehicle. Suddenly a fellow came out of one of the sheds and said. Are you ready for a road test. I asked: Where is the truck? He pointed to the "wreck". It is a 2000. He opened the door and the stench of smoke and BO was so strong I almost puked. All kinds of food wrappers and mouse droppings on the floor. The mattress came from the Sally Anne. Body had some rust and had not been washed since it was new! I told him thanks but no thanks. Then there are some smaller outfits that are run by " New Canadians". You will be lucky if you ever get a paycheck . Paul's Hauling is an excellent Company. They are also Gardewine. No new drivers are hired is what I was told. I thought you liked the Bison program? You are rushing things. Get your Class 1 first then start looking. Carriers will not send you out alone when you are green. That is the crux of the problem as they have to have some sort of mentor or trainer to go with you. That is a huge cost for the carrier and many will not spend the $$. Totally understandable. Do not think that when you get your Class 1 you are ready for the road. Not even close. Depending on your school you might be half way ready.

wow wow easy i just asked his opinion...

Right now according to the people I have talked to in different human resources depts the government is attempting to clear up those recent immigrants to Canada whom are already in the country and thus are not allowing companies to hire from the other side of the pond. Get them off the government accounts so to speak. Right now I dont think Big Freight or anyone else, are hiring anyone who does not have perm residency, Canadian citizenship, or landed immigrant status. German is the Steinbach cultural language for as long as it has been settlement in the area, so really most were born in the area not immigrants.

Well hate so say it and I will most likely not be in Courtney's good books for a while but Winnipeg Motor Express hires fresh out of driving school drivers, there is alot of sitting time, not the best wages but you will get some miles under your belt and some days on the road Canada/US. Most companies look for 2 or more years OTR. Once you have some OTR then any of the good companies will take a good look at you rather than dropping our resu
me in the g file on your way out the door. -
