The whole "OTR for a year" thing is a myth. The majority of drivers I know never spent a single day OTR. Hell I have a few relatives that have NEVER driven a truck with a sleeper.
Does anyone still enjoy being a trucker?

We're all getting displaced by autonomous driving robots in the next 5-10 years. I recommend getting into politics, trafficking narcotics, prostitution, or real estate. There's no money in honest work anymore.
GuitarDude and BigHossVolvo Thank this. -
It “was” OK until I got issued this new Crapcadia with all the electronic safety crap.
I’m not saying safety is bad,but let me drive the #### truck.

Anybody who hates trucking should leave. Some days I loveit some I don’t just like any other job. The people I know who hate their jobs usually hate all of their past jobs too. Will also hate their new jobs after a few months. Most just haven’t figured out how to be happy with their lives.

That's exactly what I believe as well. It seems like the majority hate trucking altogether. It's one thing to maybe not like a company you're at or past job in the career of trucking but if really makes no sense to hate trucking it self yet rant & complain or discourage others who are thinking of entering the field of trucking!..No one is forcing anyone to stay in trucking? I honestly could Not see myself on a public forum taking my time to explain how much I hate a career that I'm doing for a living. On average in life we might live for 42 Million minutes but sleep for 1/3rd of that time so if I hate something that much I'd reevaluate my time on considering how I spend it.

Some may pickup on these lyrics. Has pretty well been my credo over the years.
If you don't like
What you got
Why don't you change it
If your world is all screwed up

When i first got into the industry . Had an older driver helping me throww straps, showing me how and why to put a half twist in em. Best piece of advice i have ever got and still rings in my head today... "when you stop having fun out here, its time to hang up the keys, because u will be nothing but a danger to everybody around you"magoo68 and GuitarDude Thank this.

In my opinion, the key to enjoying your trucking career is getting into a sector of trucking that you’re compatible with, then working with a company you’re compatible with.
Every sector (flatbed / reefer / tank / dry van) has its own natural to it. For example: If you aren’t into physical labour, then flatbed isn’t a good choice. If long waits and strict appointment times aren’t your thing then cross reefers off the list, etc.
You have to research the details of each sector and find which one is ideal for you. Interview drivers in different sectors to see what’s out there.
The highest paying sector may not even be your ideal, so why go there just for the money? You’ll just end up as another unpleasant driver.
You may not have the experience to move into your ideal position right away but set it as your goal and work towards it. (Climb the ladder, as is the case in any other industry).Savor the Flavor, Muskie, GuitarDude and 1 other person Thank this.
