Coasting in neutral (out of gear) still allows complete control of the truck. (The brakes alone will still lock the wheels if necessary, though you never want to lock them.)

Downshift if I will come to a downgrade or if will arrive behind traffic that is moving and will accelerate instead of having to stop.

The littlextra compression drag is not worth reving the engine and everything just to stop.
Yes, it does wear brakes a little. Better thathan wearing thengine and drive train justo stop.

How am I going to wreck?
I brake to the stop sign or RED signal or stopped traffic ahead.

(I'm not counting on people hearing the engine rev to warn them of the truck's approach, if that's an idea.)

Despite not having compression re.tard, I still have full braking ability.
What I don't have is instant ability to accelerate because I'd have to place back in gear.

    Dude....You're dangerous.

Dangerous to the point of being an accident looking for a place to happen.

I just hope and pray that none of my family or friends are in your path
when you finally take yourself out of the gene pool.

THE ENGINE IS DESIGNED TO HELP WITH THE SLOWING DOWN.
Can you see it now or does it need to be bigger?

You don't have the CDL, you came here to ask CDL holders why some thing is done.

What you do in your car is one thing. Proper operation of a truck is different.

    Pleasexplain.

How much does engine compression add to braking ability when braking to a stop?
On down grades I use compression to limit speed.
But on level streets I use brakes. Not used enough to get hot and have never felt fade.
