Chock it up to a lesson learned. Always give it all you got and own your mistakes. Gives you credibility.

    That’s nothing!
Last company I was with had a driver take the wrong trailer. When he realized his mistake he was already 900 miles down the road.

Boss refused to pay him the 1,800 mile round trip..

One time I had to back down this alley in St Paul MN. There were two alleys, one to the left, other to the right. I needed the one to my right. I manuevered past a car and dropped trailer, lost my bearings and back down the left alley. Pulled the breaks and got out to start work. Then I saw my customers waiting for me on the other side of the fence. I stood there for a second scratching my head wondering how that happened.

My transport driver that takes my loads to Campbell was very good about. He said no big deal just use it as a lesson. He's name is skip and he's one of our best drivers. He has been driving 40 years and was an owner op. He gave up his two trucks several years ago and came to work for Walton when he decided it was time to be closer to his sometimes sick wife. He's in his late 50s early 60s. When he says something you shut up and listen.... He has seen it all.

He has 2 million plus accident free miles. I call that an accomplishment.

I know one driver very well that has dropped 6 trailers, pulled off a few sets of air lines, pulled at least 2 trailers to/from a customer with the landing gear almost touching the ground, pulled 2 trailers with the tandem pins released, and pulled 3 trailers with the doors open. Slow down and double-check everything before you move. Anytime you make a mistake analyze why. Then change your normal routine so you cannot make that mistake again. If you learn something from each mistake it was a valuable lesson.

The first lesson I learned in trucking was anytime you feel rushed or your plan can only work if you GO RIGHT NOW, don't. Take a breath and yield.
