That got me rolling.
I have a BA in Psych with a Grad certificate as a 'Mental Health Rehab Tech'. A con overheard my conversation w. Another driver a while back and asked 'what are you doing driving truck?' - the short answer, I don't like other peoples problems (and they're endless), I enjoy solitude, and I'm compensated better than were I to stick with social service.
Looks like we're smart monkeys, KMac.Bob Dobalina, tscottme, Diggler and 4 others Thank this. -
Solution is simple. Never accept a local job for anything less than $18 an hour. $20 if you live in a northern city due to higher cost of living. I recently posted an ad from Craigslist offering $11.50 for flatbed night work. Don't feed the lowballers! That's not being unrealistic considering I was making $19/hr a decade ago!
Which oilfield? Texas or North Dakota?Thull Thanks this. -
Yes
You read it right on here "if I could make 600-700 a week that would be great" -
If that were true, monkeys would be already driving trucks. Just because Stalone portrayed an arm wrestling monkey truck driver in an 80s movie doesn't mean it's true. And for the record Project X with the chimps flying planes with nuclear bombs was a better movie involving monkeys!!!KriegHund Thanks this.

I actually scored 99% on that test
How the hell did we end up driving semis lol. Never did join the service but had an e3 rank offered going straight into the navy. Passed.
Kinda wished I had at the time. I've never been overseas and wouldn't do it unless I was in a big group of English speaking folks. Especially nowadays.KillingTime, Thull and KMac Thank this. -
I first read that as 'especially monkeys'.... I need some sleep. Haha.CargoWahgo Thanks this.

Where experience comes into play most often is not in cash but in job quality .
The guy with the most time on the job most often gets the gravy job because he has earned it through hard work and time with the company .
As some have already said the real quality jobs almost never hire a schmuck off the street and never hire a fresh CDL ever.
Pay is not the main reason the average guy quits or hires on in the first place . There is a whole heck of allot more to a job than pay .tscottme Thanks this. -
People need to go talk to some drivers of companies they are interested in at truck stops or while fueling. Figure out where they want to work and if they are willing to put in the work that company requires. Then go knocking down doors until you get what you want. If you settle for crap companies you get everything you deserve. Put in a little effort on the front end.

Experience is the worst first year. Pay is no good. Too low. Stay where you are or join Union Trucker. In a few more years you will be a little higher on the pay.
I started at 20 cents and 5 years was at 27 10 years 32 I ended my time at the half dollar. Not much of a boost
Now figuratively a company can hire two immigrants for the cost of one of me.Thull, Diggler and KillingTime Thank this.
