    Hey y'all. Im a recent CDL grad and as im sure you know it's been tough looking for work. I have limited options as I cant pass a hair follicle test, and I also want to do flatbed to keep active, maybe even eventually transition into heavy haul. Don't want to plan out too far ahead but definitely want to stay movin and groovin.

    I've tried with TMC, no good. Waiting to hear back from Western Express flatbed division. Don't know any other flatbed companies that dont hair test. I'm open to anything that will keep me active at this point.

    Recently had a job offer hauling a hotshot, no more than 16,000lbs hauling a 20 ft trailer on a F550. Im wondering if;

    #1) Does this type of hauling require a CDL?

    #2) Will it count as CDL experience? And/or flatbed experience? (hauling excavators and other equipment is what the job entails)

    Please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong thread.

    TIA and God bless all.

    You're in the correct thread.
    Does the hotshot company require a CDL?
    Western Express flatbed is the best bet; follow up with a phone call.

    Also with W.E. I've only just submitted my license yesterday which my recruiter was waiting for to run the qualifying reports. Took forever to come in the mail. How long you think I should wait before calling for update?

    I did not look up specs. However, I'm betting an F550 with any trailer is gonna put you over 26,000 GCVWR. Therefore, you will need a class A.
    Therefore it will count as CDL class A experience.

    To answer your question -

    1 - yes you need a class A

    2 - maybe, depends on the company you are applying for.

    A bit of advice, there are thousands of carriers out there, focusing on one or two isn't going to get you a job, seek as many as you can and apply to every one of them.

    If you want to be able to pass a hair follicle test (assuming that you have stopped ingesting banned substances), get a short haircut and shave off your facial and body hair. It’ll grow back quickly, and it’ll be clean. You just need to get rid of the hair that was growing when you were indulging.

    Halvor lines out of Superior, Wi doesn't or at least didn't require a hair follicle test when I worked for them. They run east coast back to midwest constantly, so living in NJ I'm sure they would give you a shot.

    I have shoulder length dreadlocks no way those are getting cut for any job lol. Also sounds like a gamble to be quite honest.
