How is steel hauling these days?...that's what I was doing before Intermodal.....kinda want to get back to it....
It's good. Steady work if you're with a good company. I picked up in chicago or gary areas and head up towards south of the twin cities. Then come back with a Menards load to southeastern wi/home. Why don't you wanna do intermodal anymore?
Not that I don't like what I'm doing, just that I consider myself a flatbedder first (and honestly need the exercise!!!lol)...but when I started Intermodal, the rates just weren't there for flats. ifI'm out of the house all week AND doing physical labor, I expect 5k or better, if not, it's just not worth it for me.....Personal opinion, that's all.... Local flats ( load, empty, reload, empty in one day) isn't something I'm interested in, unless it consistently beats Intermodal pay ( which it didn't the last two years, hence why I'm asking..).
I only did flats for a year, with a conestaga. Would never consider doing flats without one. So I have no personal attachment to flats. Lol. Although I was looking for a one load run from gary, in to Menominee falls wi. I've heard it exists. I just couldn't find it before I committed to triumph. I understand what you're saying though.
Hiring freeze i wish my company did that, they always give you good work for the next three days after you start to hook you then nothing to starve you.
