    Wow, just when I think things are bad for us, I read these threads and feel lucky......been grossing $2,200-2,300 last two weeks....on 4 days of work.....

    Not gonna lie, been feeling down lately, but it's in comparison to last year.....hope things pick up next year!

    This week was busy, think I worked about 50 hrs, all regional grain loads, should be my first $1,000 take home in 2 months. Next week might be busy, but as the boss and one of the bean customers said, don't get our hopes up for fall. Harvest doesn't start for 4 weeks, early estimates have the crop so-so, corn should be strong, but I'm not allowed to haul the heavy stuff.

    I've been doing it 19 yrs, I'm gone maybe 3 nights per month (5 nights if you count the ones where I voluntarily stay out). Aside from one customer where they pay us extra as part of the contract, I can't recall the last load I fingerprinted. 100% drop/hook, when I am on a live load/unload, I'm either in the sleeper taking a nap, reading a book, a watching a movie on my tablet. You learn to deal with road-a-bility issues, sure they are a pain, but it could be worse.......like sitting on the side of the road for hours on end waiting for repairs. 90% of the time, I call dispatch, he asks for the lot/row/space number, emails road-a-bility the repair needed, assigns me a new load, and away I go.

    Slow downs suck, I guess I'm on my 3rd, the first was '03 when the Port workers went on strike, that one lasted about 6 weeks, it got better, but took a solid 3 months for the entire back log to clear up. Then the recession of '08, that's still lingering slightly. This time around, it's mostly due to fuel prices, diesel is cheap, so the OTR guys are undercutting the rails and taking loads that would otherwise be on domestic cans. That will change. It could be worse, I have friends that are OTR that spent 3 yrs doing a 34 twice a week because they had no loads.

    There are pros and cons to every part of trucking, the guys that regularly bash intermodal, do so because of the junk they see on the road. Valid point, but, not everything is junk, many of us a drive new or newer equipment because our companies care and they hire drivers that care, or at least make a better job of it.
