Passport or not, there are certain "crimes" that Canada specifies that will prevent entry into Canada. For example - DWI is considered a misdemeanor here in the states. In Canada it is a serious crime that will bar you from entry.

There is a process in the Canadian government that allows a person to have this limit lifted after an investigation by the Canadian government that YOU fund. Generally, if you apply on your own, I understand that these entry requests are rejected. If you pay a Canadian firm that specializes in getting this done, the requests (depending on what kind of bad boy you are!) are generally approved. Go figure...

I heard the figure of $1500 for a temporary entry permit, and as much as $3000 MORE for a permanent permit. "Canada Calling" segment of the Dave Nemo show.

what i was sayin is i can get a passport and still not be able to drive a cmv into Canada... so....

If Primes requirement for employment is having a passport, I can do that.:yes2557:
If it is to have a passport AND be able to enter Canada driving a CMV, I can't do that.:biggrin_25513:
I read on the forum somewhere that Prime will hire you, but since not able to drive in Canada, they just wont send you there. can that be right?

    Ask a recruiter for sure.

I CAN drive in Canada... Yet Prime, in two years, has never asked me to Drive in Canada.

Canada does have a process called "deemed rehabilitation" if you were only convicted of one offense and it was over 12 years ago. So with your 25 year old DUI you may be eligible. From what I know, it's up to the discretion of the immigration agent to let you in or not, but I think you can call the Canadian Embassy or Consulate to find out.

Sorry for dragging a decade old thread out of the mud, but I was looking for info on Prime running Canada because I'm a Canadian, and looking to Lease-Op; and this was the first goggle result. I didn't really find the answers I was looking for, but I think I can shed some light on some unanswered questions as a Canadian cross-border OTR driver.

Operating a CMV wouldn't be the issue. Getting the DUI past Canada Customs would be the problem. Grounds for Inadmissibility. Same thing in the States though. Something about Crimes of Moral Turpitude.

I routinely cross with my German Sheppard, and all Customs ever requires is proof from my vet that she has an up-to-date rabies cert.

True. Being polite and honest goes a long-### way. I brought 4x the amount of allowable Duty Free back last summer and the conversation went like this:

"Do you have anything to Declare?"
"Yes, Sir. I'm on vacation after this trip and I'm spending the week at my cottage, so I have 4 cases of beer."
*CBSA agent looks at me blankly* "So you have a box of beer?"
    "Yes Sir."
    "Have a nice vacation."
    "Thank you, Sir."
Also; my dogsled has OnStar and Remote Keyless Entry.

Things that don't X-ray well tend to get the TLC treatment.. Especially reefers. Reefers seem to be the trailer of choice for enterprising young middle eastern men smuggling pot into the US, or meth/coke into the US.

My first time crossing into Port Huron, Mi solo, I set off the bloody radiation detector. Turns out kitty litter is slightly radioactive.. who knew..

Half truth. It depends on weather the firearm in question is on our restricted list. That list is comprehensive, and probably changes once a week. I have a buddy in Traverse City, MI that brings guns into Canada to hunt every fall and it's do-able. For more info on our nanny-state firearms regualtions, google RCMP Chief Firearms Officer for a list of Do's and Don'ts, Don'ts, Don'ts..

I have an Assault and Mischief charge in Canada (for an alcohol related incident - surprise!), and I called Homeland Security in Buffalo, NY directly - and it took him literally 5 minutes to look up my record and tell me I would NOT be inadmissible on those grounds. That was 5 years ago and I've been cross-border 2-4 times a week ever since.
