That is every trucking company, you get sent in to orientation with just a basic check, then days spent in the class they really get more of the details. People lie so much on their applications, once they get there things come out of the woodwork. I don't think I have ever been to an orientation at any company where everyone in the class made it through orientation. I was surprised at Swift's orientation when only 1 person out of like 20 didn't make it to the end of the week.

I have never been sent home, but go to orientation like I "could" be sent home just in case you just never know.

Had some come in with dirty drug tests, felonies they didn't report, misdemeanors, wrecks they didn't report even if it wasn't their fault. You have got to be accurate and not let them have a reason to send you home.

Well I have some bad credit and unpaid medical bills but that is about it. I have a clean driving record. Never had a felony never been to jail. I am in good health and could pass a physical. But I have no job experience.

only based on the question i have "BOLDED"......NO, Swift DOES NOT hire EVERYONE.......many get rejected either when one calls up to inquire the status of an application or by email or snail mail....

there ARE NO GUARANTEE'S everyone will be hired.....

NO company hires EVERYONE that applies by the way...there will always be a percentage of rejections, and it does not take too much to reject someone....

now, maybe the Swift spouse program they DO hire many couples, but do not plan on this.......

in life, there are NO guarantee's..........

Of course not every company hires everyone that applies.:biggrin_2559:But the school website says after you complete there (21 day) program and get

your cdl you train with a mentor for 6 weeks and then you get the keys to

your own truck. Obviously they can give you the boot at anytime if you don't cut it.

you can be booted out of the classroom, while they are doing the background checks, which i do believe includes a credit check as well. many companies ARE doing credit checks these days....

as i said, based on your question, "does everyone get hired"........i said NO.........

nearly and i say nearly EVERYONE gets a "pre-hire", to with which one can wipe ones arse with it, because a pre-hire is worth about as much as toilet paper....!!!...:biggrin_255:

Also, look into a couple of other companies. One will be found that is the right fit. For example I have heard that Schneider is really good for teams and most people at Watkins Shepard are pretty happy. Swift is not your only option. I am not saying Swift is the wrong choice, you just need to do some research. you will hear lots of people bash just about any company. Usually they have no direct experience or they did not make the cut and they take no responsibility (it was ALL the companies fault) Take everything with a grain of salt as we all see things through our own eyes.

Swift does like the husband/wife mentor program...it has been very successful for them! Not only is the company generating a team after training, they actually have a team truck sooner than when the "training" is completed.

As for "hiring anybody"...Swift has physical requirements and background checks. What most applicants do to get "bounced" from the orientation process is intentionally hide or "forget to mention" something on the application. Also a big issue is a DMV record issue. Be honest on your application and don't leave any stone unturned! As for never having a job before...you will be required to "document" your "non-work" history...letters from neighbors, friends and family that will verify that you are who and what you are. Having no work history is not that uncommon...we all know there are "professional students" in this country...even they have to actually go to work eventually!

Once you both get approved for hire...your husband will get through the academy and get assigned a Mentor and start the (approximately) 6 weeks of training...it seems to be getting done sooner now with the 240 hours requirement...just depends on the Mentor and how he/she runs his/her operation. Make sure hubby and his Mentor get along and hubby will stay on with the first Mentor before you get started with academy. If there is a "glitch" with the Mentor it could drag out the time table..so stay on top of the Mentoring phase with hubby....don't let hubby get the attitude that he can "just go along" with a bad Mentor to rush the training. His training is critical as to the effectiveness of his training will have a direct correlation to your training by your Hubby/Mentor.

After hubby gets through and you get on your Hubby/Mentor truck as a student/spouse...hubby needs to let you do the work, not be a "mother hen" and not teach you everything he can. Nana had a small issue with her hubby/Mentor when it came to backing and the physical part of the job. Remember also these trucks seem big and roomy at first...but it doesn't take long for the walls to start closing in. Keep this in mind and both of you will need to learn to adjust to the close quarters, and close proximity to each other for 24 hours EVERY DAY, ALL DAY AND NIGHT!

Other items Nana will be glad to fill you in about. One more thing...what part of CA are you from, that could make a difference on what school or academy you go to!

    Everett and NoCoCraig Thank this.
