I can’t believe there are DOT physical mills out there that will certify just about anything with a heartbeat to drive a truck.

    Find a new place.

I was stuck using this specific office thats affiliated with a hospital. My new job sent me there. This girl that gave me the exam was the one that called me to apologize. Im thinking maybe the HR dept of my new job called her office and eaised hell about why was she giving me a hard time.

Trump squashed the requirement for FMCSA ,but this didn't stop the doctors, from saying " Hey ,I'm not signing off on this driver, until I see results of a sleep study. There's really two sides to it. The first a money grab 2k dollar sleep apnea machine, with the $160 month memory card reading, can't switch doctors, then the side that maybe you Do need it and easier for a doctor to just recommend it. They're not paying for it, and making money.

Just like hospitals, doctor groups are gobbling up smaller groups. The office I go to had a Physical Therapy facility next door. All of a sudden it took onthe same name and they stopped drawing a blood sample during your physical. Now the send you next door where they added a small area to draw your blood.

Each little thing is billed by each arm of the octopus

Now the same group had moved a few offices and added a third section labeled urgent care; still all under the same name...guess who owns the sleep study clinic too?

New doctors, deep in debt, join these groups because it is nearly imposible to set up a one man shop on top of the school debt. they need to join up so the can practice.

I don't think this is really fair, especially for older guys approaching retirement. We have a few older guys who are some of the best drivers going and they go out of pocket to a chiropractic and get 2 year certs and we reinburse them.

Except is kinda is a big deal, because if the company-mandated doc is trying to force you to do a sleep study, then it's prolly gonna end up being with some contracted quack who'll slap a diagnosis on every single patient who comes through their sleep lab (regardless of whether said patient actually has sleep apnea) in exchange for some kind of monetary bonus. Was a real problem with one of the companies a family friend drove for, but I can't remember what that company's name was...

I've known a lot of people that have done sleep studies, I've never known of anyone that has done a sleep study and didn't come home with a CPAP. Maybe there is somebody somewhere that went though a sleep study and they told them they didn't need a CPAP, but I haven't ever heard of it.
I've never truly trusted doctors. Not to get political, but the last year and a half have made me even much more skeptical. It's all about the all mighty dollar, and lots of doctors will stand there and watch you die if it is profitable and/or politically correct to do so.

When I was approaching retirement from the service, everyone told me to try and get a sleep study completed before I got out. If found to have SA and require a CPAP, I would get financial compensation from the VA.

Due to the sheer number of referrals, the base hospital couldn't keep up and referred 70% of troops (and 100% of dependents) out o a local clinic. I was one of the 30% retained on-base, where, miraculously, only 3% of those tested were diagnosed with SA (compared to about 90% of those going to the off-base private clinic). 87% fraudulent diagnosis of a relatively rare condition, all for the money selling CPAPs.
