Does the state on my DL have to be the same as the company I work for?

Lots of drivers use escapes RV for their address. They are in TX, FL, and either ND or SD. I'm personally using my sister's house for my address. But will be changing that some time soon. Just keep your IL address. IMO

    Switcher Thanks this.

That’s how I see it too. I answered the question in his comment. Any state I’ve lived in required you to get a drivers license within 30, 45 (whatever) days of establishing residence there.

As far as the title of his post, I’ve never heard of having to have a license from the state the company is based out of. Some companies won’t withhold state taxes for out of state residents but that’s a different matter.

Your drivers license should be from the state you live in. Where the company is should have no bearing on it.

I am not disputing any of the information in this thread BUT, a CDL ''should'' be in a national data base. Other wise it just doesn't make sense.

It is. It's called CDLIS. Which makes the question just weird...

It is in one. The thing is the states are free to set up some basic things. Of course, they can't go below an FMCSA minimum or above an FMCSA maximum. Inside this, they can set up their licensing standards. As I understand it the state of Illinois is really tough when it comes to transferring a CDL there.

IDK It seems like a paradox to me. I'd bet over half of the CDL drivers in Il. don't have an Il. license or go through the BS.
The standards should be the same everywhere for CDL holders, unless maybe they never leave the state.
    JMO of course.
