I also have a 2007 colombia with a detroit D Dec 5 and It doesnt have a gauge to measure the avg mile per gallon.
I am wondering if this will work? Any thoughts or experience would be great?
This is what I am looking to buy for it.

Saw the same thing at Autozone for less than half that price.
The blue guy Thanks this. -
Yes it will work. Make sure you buy the correct one

You need scan gauge D, most motor home places stock them.

I am gathering your 07 doesnt have the digital screen that you cycle through. On the Century I drove there was a green screen of sorts that would list the average mpg base on how I was driving.

Question? Are you just wanting to know what your fuel average is? If so, you can just keep track of mileage and divide by the number of gallons of fuel, for example; 852 miles divided by 112 gals equals 7.6 m.p.g.The blue guy and gpsman Thank this.

Thank You everyone for all your input, I found a local place that had it yesterday and Its just a plug and play installation.
Its great! So I do recommend it if anyone is looking for one in the future

Yes, that's the most accurate way. As I understand it, the scangauge only calculates fuel usage by estimation based on injector pulse times. Many factors can make that calculation inaccurate. Things such as worn injectors, fuel temperature and fuel pressure can affect the accuracy of the numbers. I'd recommend comparing the scan gauge numbers with this method posted here.gpsman and The blue guy Thank this.

Ok sounds great! I will do that also

On my other truck its a 2004 century detroit ddec 5 with the 12.7L It says it only gets 4.5-5mpg.
If doesnt have the roof spoiler, maybe thats causing all that drag? -
Or, maybeprobably the gauge is inaccurate. For calculating average mpg it's pretty tough to beat dividing miles by gallons. If that number differs much from the gauge, I'd have to conclude the gauge isn't very accurate. The blue guy Thanks this.
