Another thing that substantially affects the numbers is the vehicle speed sensor calibration. For mileage, use a GPS odometer rather than the truck odometer. But make sure the GPS is turned on at all times that the truck is moving.

edit: The MPG numbers in the ECU are also affected by idle time. Substantial idle time will lower your mpg numbers.

the problem with the calculate and divide method. is that only gives you the number per tank fill up.

the nice thing about the gauge. is it changes between start ups and your driving range. constant flat land vs. mountains. in other words, you have a reading at any given time. and can change your driving to accomplish the best mpg on different terrain and weather conditions. can't do that with the calculate and divide method. and you don't have to worry about figuring out your gallons used during idle times.

let me know how your D works. i had numerous ecm repairs with mine. and quirky glitches like the ecm shutting the truck down for a very breif second and the gauge going totally dark. all my problems went away when i threw the device away. the last repair was $6,000.

kevin rutherford announces a software upgrade for the D to match the KR version for $25 last i heard him talking about it.

the D is designed and programed for light duty diesels. the KR is for heavy duty diesels. that's why the price difference. my D may have been a bad unit. i don't know, but i'll never use the D again. next time it'll be KR.
