When transporting has mat shipments some types cannot be transported on the same trailer, like oxidizers and corrosives, can be loaded but not next to one another AND legally must be 6 inches off the floor, so if one leaks, it cannot react with the other. A hazmat response book must be in vehicle and when asked for shipping papers it is a good idea to hand them the response book with the shipping papers. Poisons can't be loaded with foodstuffs it is always advisable to have extra placards with when one gets damaged or blows off. Flammable gas placard will also cover a nonflammable gas placard if you have both on board and not over 1000 lbs. Very important is the way the materials are described on the bill of ladings. Hazmat must be listed first and described in a certain way. Proper shipping name, hazard number, then packaging group, then one other thing. I might have them out of order, you need to look it up for yourself. You can actually placard for any amount of materials, but it is not usually required until the total weight of hazmat reaches 1000 lbs. The table one items like explosives, chlorine, etc need placarding at any amount.
Any carrier you drive for is supposed to put you through a class on hazmat before hauling any.JReding Thanks this. -
