I don't see how one could stay in this line of work for more than a month going that route.
And it's not just rgns. They load heavy equipment on steps too. You go to a port, back up to thr dock and go find your machines.
The first time I saw this was 2007 in ny company schmuck days. I loaded up a street sweeper in this small town west of Chicago (Elgin). There were a couple other drivers there. We went to Baltimore.
I backed my step to the dock and backed the sweeper off. The other two drivers argued with the dock people. My dispatcher calls me and offers $100 to unload the other two.
Easy money, right?
The point of this thread is to let guys who are wanting to get into the business know what part of their duties are. Doesn't matter if you are company or owner op. If you cant do this part of the job, I don't see how you're going to make it.

This. I will do everything i can to help a guy that tries. But a guy that won't try? He is on his own.
This goes for everything, not just loading equipment. Just bought a truck and busting your tail to make a living? I'll try to offer help, things I've learned over 21 years of owning a truck. Your truck breaks down and you are covered in oil trying to fix it but in over your head? Hang on a moment, let me put my coveralls on and grab my wrenches. Just did this Monday night. A guy was changing his power steering pump in the parking lot and couldn't quite get it. I changed my clothes and got him going. Just started pulling a flat and that tarp is giving you hell trying to get it to stay put in the wind? Been there, let me save you some aggravation and show you how to get it to stay in place long enough to get some bungees on it.
People that won't even try i couldnt care less about.Last edited: Dec 15, 2016

I remember the 1st time I went to Baltimore port and was told I had to load my own machine......
Now I enjoy driving those things!skootertrashr6 and TripleSix Thank this. -
I would think that's the most part of @johndeere4020's day. Back and forth between the home 20 and job sites, delivering and picking up machines. Could you imagine what would happen to JD if he refused to load machines? Next thing you know, @skootertrashr6 woukd refuse to carry dunnage. And @Dye Guardian would go run team with some New Canadians for TransX and cut a hole in the sleeper floor. And @cnsper would go deliver PODS for England. And MJ would go vegan and would become a vegetable hunter (sounds exciting don't it?). And @wore out would get an old Swift Volvo and @passingthru69 would buy a brand new Cascadia. And @Rontonio would go pull for Bulldog...
See how important you are to the world, JD?Lepton1, ShooterK2, whoopNride and 7 others Thank this.
