Here is the way I see it, we are all competitors. Now that doesn't mean be rude to each other, put stuff in their fuel tank, and what not but I shouldn't be expected to help you do the job you are getting paid for.

If you are expected to load your own equipment and can't, maybe they will call somebody like me next time that can. As Six likes to say, bring your A game or find you something else to do.

Now some people will read this and think I'm being arrogant, that's not my point at all. It's said to get people to wake up, grab the bull by the horns, and get it done.

I've never seen any group, as a whole, that complains as much as truck drivers about why they can't or won't do something. You can just read some of the post on here to prove my point.

While some of the new stuff is like driving a car, it can be a real ditch to get them running. all this digital, electronic doodads. took me 10 minutes to get a new cat loader started. Most of that was just looking for the start switch.

Truck drivers certainly complain a lot, and insist on not doing anything beyond the bare minimum required... But its not just truck drivers.... Its everywhere

Ok here is a deal just like Six has discussed. I see the ld I am currently doing. Have the office work out the details and money.
He calls back, yes we got it. You need to ld yourself. Ok no problem. So I get to the site. Well passed it and turn around.
Glad I did as it was a back in only site for my setup. Ask to use the zoom boom to flip my axle. Yep no problem.
Do that and I ask, where is the machine
Oh about 3/4 mile down the string road
Ok. They get the golf cart and tote me to it. Oh here's the rules on travel.
    Ok got that.
It's a long bumpy ride. I get lined up and lded with no spotter, seeing how she is home on holiday. Lol
Chain down and take off to the other site. Oh yea, local move the good unit to the site where bad unit is. Oh dud I say how much I hate Fl. Sugar sand ground
So I go to pull into site. Single lane rd with huge corner posts. Had to backup and re group.. pull off to the side and guess who sinks. Was able to get neck off and unld. Then hook up and work my way out. Gotta love double locker axles
Then go 1/2 a mile turn around
Screw will ld the broke unit in the morning on the asphalt lol
So you wanna be a heavy haul lol

Somewhat, most sites we run to the crews ld and unld us. No biggie. Most sites have operator for the zoom booms and such, plus this is kinda a government job. So that makes it even more funnier in a way. Both sites were a total cluster puck. ...

What I forgot to post in the first part was, I guess some 8 axle guy came in Monday.. He refused to ld the machine.
He said I'm a heavy Hauler. Not a operator. So when I first get there the first thing they asked, can you setup and ld. Yourself.. yes I can and was told no operator at either end.. They say thanks

We did a lot of equipment for the power grid. Sort of a government oversight type of thing. Sounds like things run about the same.

Most of the job sites had only one access road.
That road was one way, get on one end, exit the other end.

Take all day to go to and from the staging site.

The only thing I would not load ( nor allow on the trailers) was anything with a sheeps foot or any thing like it.
