Just curious. Who handles the distribution and restocking of their perishables food items?

Pretty sure that perishables are handled by local vendors.. not out of the DC's milk, food, beer are all done by little bobtail trucks

A hub and spoke hauling terminal to terminal without touching freight is not even on the same planet as these Dollar Store jobs.. its not comparable at all.

Which costs money to run. I don't think anyone is saying there is no solution. It's just that DG and their ilk will not pay for said solutions.

Easy.....easy easy........get your own fleet.......of DRIVERS........REAL MEN who understand the work..........then, keep the trailer cool enough that they arent going to perish in the hot summer months......create better store docks and unload areas with consistancy .......get store personell 100% on board with assisting the delivery.......sound familiar? It should......Walmart does it.....heck even Piggly Wiggly does it......Mc Clanes does it.......Sysco can even do it......and they have multiple concepts and custumers........soooooo.......all these strange excuses simply sound like strange excuses.......

    Funniest thing...
I used to do car dealer parts run every weekend for about 5 years while working during the week as a teamster driver servicing department stores.
30 to 40 stops per w/e easing into tight dealer lots to get close to the service and parts entry.
N.D or S.D or eastern half of NE.
Leave after work on a fri night and back sun night or early mon am.
    Never damaged a thing.
    This was before HOS changes.
Could bring home up to 900 bucks.

I still to this day, cause I travel rural roads primarily, look at dealers when passing to scope access.
I do the same lately, at least since I've been on this forum, for the DG or FD stores I see on every trip and in my head figure out how I would approach the side door.
I certainly see how this position would eat up a new driver.
90% require crossing and blocking opposing traffic and probably half would be blind siders, and that's with having to make a u turn to approach from the easiest direction to back from.
A experienced competent driver whether he was w a mega or a DG type fleet would be a huge asset I believe and should be compensated accordingly..in excess of 100K imho.

It just appears to many that since not much THOUGHT went into the D G logistical process, that they are having a magnified version of the same problems that EVERY transportation / logistics company faces......its just the way they dealt with them that needs a boost.......they need to get dirty and go headhunting for some knowledgeable people who helped over at some of these other companies...they just havent done it.......and if they are going with the rest of us into the future, then do so........look at Sonic restaurants......they completely re- furbished ALL of their stores......gave them a much needed "facelift".....was there huge costs? Yeah.......was it necessary? Yeah......are they still going stronger than ever ? Yeah......
